I don’t think Nintendo has a bad record with consoles. Perhaps bad dealings with third parties. However, Nintendo’s consoles have been pretty high quality compared to (for example) the PS2. The PS2 was a piece of crap system with excellent 3rd party support.
The Wii was decent too, but it had a horrible online strategy, horrible storage capabilities, horrible security against pirating (the Wii is super easy to hack), it lacked HD and the 3rd party support completely and totally under estimated it. Despite all of this, the Wii out-sold the competition.

Graphics and power are important but that’s not why the consoles are a success, it’s the games that make them sell so well. Say what you want about Nintendo, but their 1st party games rarely ever suck.
The wii was too different so it was hard to port games over that was a huge reason why games didnt make it. 1st party games are good but its not enough.

I agree with this.
However, what would piss me off is that 3rd parties would lie about the system. For example: Capcom said that SSF4 couldn’t be ported over to the Wii because the Wii wasn’t powerful enough to handle the engine… Then they ported the game to the 3DS and the iPhone! If you’re going to piss on people, at least tell them it’s piss and not kool-aide.

The PS2 was only amazing because of it’s 3rd party support. The system itself sucked!
Imagine having Tekken Tag on the blue discs and then having your PS2 give you read errors because the system is garbage. Then fast forward a month and now blue discs can NO LONGER be read at all! The PS2 would die and overheat so fast that it wasn’t even funny. Saved games would mysteriously get corrupted, games would freeze, etc. Don’t ever drop a PS2 from any height; it’ll EXPLODE!
Now, my N64… I’ve dropped that thing so many times from a variety of heights. It kept working! Now, that is quality! I’ve dropped the Gamecube a couple of times and it worked. Dropped a PS2 and it never worked AGAIN.
Anyway, not to de-rail the thread, I could use as much advice about Vega as possible. I have, like, no strategies against him. I got pummeled by a guy named “Th3 Girl iz hott”. Never again!

I had the ps2 slim so i didnt notice any flaws if they had any and i dont move my console so dropping is out of the question. For vega i just save 3 bars and start mashing ex dp if they start getting greedy with frame traps or tick throws.
what do you mean bro? I’m not saying Wii-U is gonna be bad, in fact I’m saving up for one. My advice is simply to wait it out a bit for more of the big three to debut there systems because i have a small hunch all won’t be successful. Vita is going up against 3DS after a price-drop and a stellar lineup from Nintendo, not saying it’s gonna be awesome or anything, but support is behind the device right now, I do a decent amount of research in that area, gotta give it some time to see where it’ll end up. Oh and it’s a common misconception that PSP sucked, the platform sold a lot of units, and Monster hunter practically revived it in Japan. PSP selling more than Vita shouldn’t be a jab at Vita, PSP is a well-loved platform over there.
Nintendo has a bad track record with third party devs, that’s not saying anything about the quality of the Wii-U, there’s simply a chance that Nintendo’s first party might dominate that platform again (like Wii, like Gamecube) third party games haven’t really flourished since SNES. btw–I like Ninty, love Sony, don’t really care for MS…just so u know where my stances are lol…there’s also a good chance both MS and Sony’s next-gen platform will more powerful than Wii-U, both of them are releasing afterwards, and Ninty doesn’t seem to be going bleeding tech with Wii-U. The controller seems to be just as important as the console.
I guess my post does come off as anti-Ninty, but I’m just being realistic. Wii-U looks like it might repeat Wii’s success. Which is great for Nintendo, but it basically means Nintendo’s first party titles will dominate the platform again, and many big third party titles will not be on the platform. I don’t want that to happen, but with such a drastically different controller it might. Also, ninty’s needs to repair there relationship with third party devs, they simply don’t make as much money as Nintndo does on there hardware.
People said the 3DS flopped when it didn’t sell it’s first couple months, why is everyone so quick to say a platform is dead/flopped/fail. It just released and no standout japanese game even shipped with it. Japan doesn’t care about Uncharted and Wipeout. Give Vita some time to marinate, it definitely didn’t fail. Not saying it won’t though, 3DS is cheaper and has gotten a big boost in sales, so it’s gonna be tough for Sony, but it’s a beautiful piece of hardware, I was more impressed technically with the Vita than 3ds…
I think u misinterpreted my post too man…I loved my Wii like 3 years ago, but motion control games got old and the graphics started to feel dated pretty early on. I’m just now dusting off my Wii to play Xenoblade/Last Story/Zelda and then that it. Nintendo sold a helluva lot of consoles, but some of the biggest and most highly rated games missed the platform because of the reasons above. I’m just saying I’m not going to rush out and support Ninty this time if that repeats. I love there first party, so I’ll eventually get one regardless, but not day one like I did with Wii.
outselling the competition is great, but I stopped playing my Wii years ago, it got a lot of people back into gaming, and it’s great family fun, but too many good games are simply not on Wii.
I partially agree with this.
**Nintendo has been cruel to 3rd parties since the NES days. ** Actually, it’s really due to Mr. Yamauchi because he was old and senile. After Iwata took over, Nintendo has been trying very hard to restore a once lost relationship with 3rd parties. Nintendo made the fatal mistake of saying that they didn’t care what 3rd parties thought about the Wii. It was a huge risk, but it paid off for them. At this stage, Iwata has said he learned his lesson. He realized that 3rd parties were very important (largely due to the runaway success of the DS), so upon developing the 3DS, he tried very hard to win 3rd parties over and was relatively successful. He’s still trying to win them over and he’s been pretty good at it. I anticipate that the Wii-U will have great 3rd party support.
**The Vita… I suppose we could give it more time. **
Now, with great 3rd party support, I expect SSF4 to be on that system. I will then be playing that game through Nintendo’s revamped Nintendo Network (about time) and all should be well. Hopefully Clover studios releases a hit so they can give the middle finger to Capcom xD

That wasn’t Nintendo’s fault.
3rd parties were cocky and arrogant. They felt the same way you did, despite the fact that companies were making huge bucks off the Wii. They were arrogant fanboys. Several developers said they’d rather lose money on a game just so they can release their game in HD. It was stupid. There was an article a few years ago that explained that these companies were wasting millions of dollars on games that brought in a negative investment. For example GTAIV took 3 years for Rockstar to catch even. That’s utter ridiculousness. After these stupid 3rd party developers were wasting money building games they couldn’t afford, they’d blame the economy for why they weren’t making money. Remember when EA got rid of a ton of 3rd party studios claiming they couldn’t afford them? Gee, I wonder why…
^tbh, i would much rather for all of that to happen than Wii-U be on the Wii train again…I actually would love for a Nintendo platform to be my main home console again. They even said that DLC is bogus and they don’t like the way it’s been handled and plan to do things much different on the new Nintendo Network. if that Zelda game is anything to buy, graphics shouldn’t be any problem whatsoever. PS2 is proof you don’t need bleeding edge tech to be the market leader. let’s hope there push towards getting the third party guys pays off, or else I might have to get an Xbox!!!
lol…no jabs at any MS fans here, live is awesome, but I’m too used to free online to ever pay for it after the trials were off. I do hope both PSN/NN improve the stability and communication features on there networks though. on Live, it’s almost like your on the telephone with your friend’s list, that stability would be nice to have on other systems for a change. sorry to derail the sakura thread guys…I like Sakura!! ;0)
I’d hope so, compared to all the XBL/PSN DLC I’ve bought, the Wii nickel-and-dimeing me to death to the tune of some $34 for the FFIV:After Years game is probably the most I’ve ever felt ripped off.
On topic: Was playing with my friend last night who regularly dominates me(you can tell by the win total), but in our final match I at least had the last laugh. I made a bunch of mistakes so this isn’t exactly an impressive video for the most part, but the comeback I mounted in the second round is one of the proudest moments I’ve had so far since picking up this game: http://www.twitch.tv/bgcallisto/b/307116873
me playing on Air’s stream at his place and getting a lesson from him. I improved tons by the end of the night, as you can see my scrubby play slowly improve haha ugggh those first games were bad… Its a good watch if anyone is wanting to improve Sakura and hear Air’s tips given to me
vs Cammy(elive.CCL)
I’m having a lot of trouble with cammy’s lately, weird wakeup timing and EX cannon strike make it hard for me.

vs Ryu(elive.Kenpachi)
OG Ryu, like really OG, had trouble adjusting since you don’t often see Ryu’s like this. Great fireballs/antiairgame and great footsies.
So until watching part of this, i didn’t know of a consistent way to time the otoshi x2, level 2 hado > flower kick > dp set up. I then learned it with the whiffed cr. Short, and played you online a few hours later. When i decided to try it, i ate a well deserved ex dp and laughed because i just tried to use a setup that i learned from you earlier that day.
Are you in ontario? The connection wasn’t too bad. I’m in michigan so i guess that wouldn’t be too far.
hahaha thats funny. once you did the crouching short I was like, “weird, i’ve never seen anyone set that up before with a crouching short like I do… well, gonna ex dp now” hahahaha. I live in british columbia
