living in the bay area i’ve unfortunately turned into an ice cream snob (organic milk etc.) i used to love dreyers and shit but now won’t even look at it.
bi-rite creamery in san francisco has the absolute best ice cream i’ve ever had. ici in berkeley is good too but they’re sort of like a bi rite clone.
When it comes to brands, Blue Bell is top. I remember reading some newspaper article that whenever it expands to another area/state, it quickly takes over the dominant brands.
I will say though, our local chain of HEB here in Texas sells a god tier vanilla, Creamy Creations 1905 Vanilla.
If you have Blue Bell in your area and you havent tried it, best 3 flavors to break in are Homestyle Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, and Cookies n’ Cream.

Just reading this made me feel like going for a jog.
During an art Exam I had a few years ago it was hot enough in London (That’s saying something in itself) that me and a friend shared a whole box of Twisters between the two of us. I barely eat ice cream now but anything with those really sweet short biscuit kinda bits inside or caramel is the bomb-diggety… Oh and I used to eat Vanilla Ice Cream with warm/hot custard A LOT as a kid, it just feels amazing in your mouth.
Ice cream wise this is the Alpha and the Omega.
Not even my enjoyment of the racist connotations about “Banana” ice cream can budge from this truth.
