Like Realistically if you want to do some decent gaming you going to get the following and were going to “future proof” Get something higher than our minimum

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 / AMD FX-8350 or better

Mininum 8GB of Systems Ram

Video
Something on par with or better than NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB) or AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB), look for something with Dedicated graphics

OS: if you are buying new its going to be Win 10 and you want it to be 64 bit

Were looking at something $1000 to $1700
Here is the cheapest I would go with if it was me

Jopamo, come on man, thanks for leading me to a site that doesn’t display prices and if I wanted a new car it would need “specific requirements” that my current car does not have.

My bad, I meant Overwatch but spellcheck had other ideas.

Darksukul, thanks, it doesn’t have to be new just as long as the screen isn’t scratched or worn out. Regarding my personal online gaming requirements I simply use GGPO to play ST and Alpha 2 and I occasionally play quake live. I’m just interested in playing quake champions and a few other high end games before I decide to invest in a few high end gaming PC’s for my gaming room when I eventually move into my new apartment.

In terms of a budget limit I usually don’t have one but the flat I currently live in has some security issues so I thought maybe $500 for now, second hand.

Wow, does Quake 2016 really need an i7? I’m assuming that’s not the minimum requirement.

That be Doom not Quake. The equivalence AMD processor runs Doom fine, A Ryzen 5 or even the obsolete AMD FX-8350 can run it.

I am not saying you have to get the three year old horribly priced Intel Core i7-3770, its just there as a hardware baseline, there cheaper CPUs that do the job, including newer i5 CPUs.

$500 ? That going to be tough, Best i can find

The Acer on Newegg is a better deal than the Alienware as the Acer is new while the alienware brand is not as good as it used to me as well as I don’t know much about Top Hatter.

Otherwise you need to scour eBay for Used and Refurbished Laptops

Like this

Pay attention to the eBay seller rating, 98% is actually quite low. 100% being perfect.

Cmon you basically supplied us zero parameters (size, budget, etc.) for search, other than games you wanted to play–hence the car reference. I was just joking around.

That link I shared was just for spec cross-reference. RoG laptops are arguably some of the most gaming-focused on the market. If you’re looking for something good–that’s the first place you should check out. You never specified budget constraints, so I thought “sky’s the limit.” Now that I know that your restriction is $500 and possibly second-hand, then that changes things dramatically.

You’ve got options for second-hand at $500, though keep close eye on the GPU. Your options for new that that price point are limited. By tossing in $200-$250 more, you’ll get one of these four laptops on Newegg.

If you want to do any sort of real gaming avoid anything that reads “Intel Integrated graphics” even if it’s Intel HD Graphics.
You want something from ATI/AMD or Nvidia, Look for something with dedicated graphics (meaning there is a actual GPU from one of the two GPU makers).

Unfortunately you cannot get NEW, Cheap and Good at the same time.

@“Sexperienced.” Check out no compromise gaming. You can order a desktop or laptop and pay monthly for it: http://www.nocompromisegaming.com#oid=2459_1

By the way I’m in the UK not America. I would have bought that HP laptop last night if I lived in America. I’m currently trying to look for laptops with similar specs over here.

Thats what I hate about rating processors which I haven’t done for a while now. Most people would automatically think any version of the i7 is better than the previous i5 model but for some reason intel are still releasing newer older models that surpass the current i7, wtf.

i3 and i5 are not older models than the i7.

The i3, i5 and i7 are different tiers and Intel been releasing new versions almost every year.
This year they even released a new model Pentium Processor that rivials many of the older i3 as a budget processor.

You also never said you were in the UK. You know what I am done here, every step along the way you withheld or failed to give out info that would allow us to help you with your needs. You even said your budget was $500, you used an american currency to say what your budget was. At worst I could accept you were Canadian, it is not hard for someone in the US to price things in the Canadian market which isn’t too different from the US. But now and only now you say you are in the UK and US price points are very different and the markets are completely different. And after you saw us put some serious effort.

Was it too hard to say you had a £500 budget instead of a $500 budget? We all realize you were in the UK and made efforts to connect you to someone who knew the UK PC market.

jopamo’s post about the car is now more on point than before. You wanted games in 1080p HD and 60 frames per second, happy hunting.

Meh?.. Older version wasn’t the correct term, having less cores was more appropriate. People I’ve spoken to have all said the i7 is the best performing processor for gaming, even the older generation i7 in comparison to newly released processors, my only concern is when I check benchmarks this isn’t the case. This is just a general observation, nothing to get overly emotional or heartbroken about, lol.

My limit was £350 not £500, so my budget was roughly the equivalent to 500 dollars anyway, hence me not correcting something that did not need correcting but for some reason you’ve decided to become overly emmotional over nothing.

There was no vital information being withheld and neither was the fact I live in the UK. i5 and i7 are not rare in the UK contrary to what you may have been told and the only concern was getting the right spec laptop for the games and requirements that I wanted.

There’s nothing wrong with being Canadian and you’ve all helped more than enough already. I really didn’t need your help in the first place because SRK isn’t the only place or the first place I go to for advice, but I’m grateful for the effort… I didn’t even ask any follow up questions but you responded like I just asked you a question when I obviously no longer need your help, and rather than you just not posting at all or even deleting your post you felt the need to make me aware when I really don’t care.

The only thing I wanted to do was update you on the laptop I eventually bought which is on its way but now I have no reason to do that. Thanks anyway…
