I agree except this popped up in google and this is relevant. I was talking to Halfro about this and I was wondering if there was a way to measure the lag. Worst case scenario I use a XRGB Mini and get lagless that way, I just wasn’t sure how good VGA via DC on any Evo type monitor (usually any monitor with roughly 10 ms lag). I have the BenQ one with HDMI with that “fighting mode” and Jwongs name plastered on it.
Specifically though CvS2 is the only game I would do this for since it is the best version that is not the arcade.
It’s much easier to use a Evo type monitor over a CRT. Also Capcom sucks and will never release it for modern consoles.
Since CVS2 on PS2 doesn’t have 480p support, just get an SCART cable to the device and line double the 480i signal. That’s the idea since it’s only out to some early preorders. There are other options too I can’t think of atm.
DC over VGA probably would work decently on those monitors.
It’s still currently up in the air but it’s assumed it might be at least under $250 for an assembled unit with DVI out. DIY units with HDMI out might be cheaper. Videogameperfection.com is working on helping out on the distribution.
The OSSC is supposed to be the modern equivalent of the XRGB-3 because of the digital output (DVI on assembled and HDMI video only on DIY units). Lag reports from creator Marqs and the JunkerHQ wiki says two scanlines, I want a more detailed result.
If CRT not your hing and your HD LCD Monitor still has a VGA output the XRGB Seires prior to the XRGB-mini Framemeister are your best choices.
The XRGB 1, 2 and 2 Plus does not upscale it only line doubles, taking the image from 240p to 480 and outputs as VGA. Still a 480 image on a HD screen will create some latency as the monitor has to upscale that image.
XRGB 3 does HD resolutions, people say it can be finicky but that can be solved with a good sync cleaner.
