@Kalyx_triaD
I see what you are saying. Especially since my last game, I just randomly made the background quickly and hastily without vision, only the characters got any sort of work on them, but even that could have been better if I wasn’t spending so much time with the stuff a programmer should be in charge of(since I had every role except music when working on this game, it’s part of the reason I did not go all out on art like I should have.)
That running guy is from an old comic I hadn’t revealed publicly until just last summer when I was working on a boat in the north pacific, and didn’t have the hindsight of bringing my wacom tablet, so I began editing and finishing the story from said comic, wasn’t really suitable for webtoon style since the panels need to be bigger, but I worked with what I had(and what a mouse can do). It’s actually pretty funny, and episode 03 has a character that would work well in a fighting game:
This is really nicely rendered, nice shading and color choices. The anatomy is a bit off, her arms look weird and lumpy and I’m not crazy about her face design.
These are the most appealing character designs of the bunch. I think more cartoony/anime designs suit you.
The anatomy here is much better, could still use some work though.
@Truendymion
Thanks, that puts things in perspective, for some reason, my cartoon style or even hybrids of it don’t look as good as the pieces you mentioned. Yeah, gotta work on the muscle anatomy. I’m all over the place when it comes to art and style and can’t really focus on which to stick with since I’m experimenting often.
As for the 3D, I’m thinking of going the cel shaded with outlines look, although last time I tried this was the result:
Before I could experiment getting contrast and stuff, I ended up going with the current gradient look of Nighty Knight.
And now, this is my latest dabbing into the method again and experimenting with different shaders and a model I had made but didn’t use or anything, settings in Blender.
I need to make a new model using better, more efficient methods to get the cartoon look. I heard Arc Sys had to tweak their models a lot to get the right look.
@truendymion Thanks, they both share a similar design style, but both are using a different shader although the results are similar(and the pixie has an outline). I probably should have used that model of the princess and made a game in that design style than to settle for the more western, toonish graphics I used in my 3D game with the Roaches.
Speaking of that game, I took the model of that princess and used toon shaders and outline on it(kind of needs work since the glass of the magnifier turned black, and some weird black outlilnes on the skirt).
