I have a question about a friends rig and i dont know how to help him

This is the Imac my friend has. He bought injustice on steam thinking it would work on mac by using parallel desktop, but he kept getting this " ladder " in the corner, he can play the game( he can only pick batman because he kept mashing x) but all the interactives are gone and there are no health bars on screen. he cant acess character select screen or any other parts of the menu. I’d very much appreciate any help i can get.

Can he run any games or other graphics-intensive programs through Parallels? Try Furmark or some other benchmark.

Does the VM have Parallels Tools installed and updated?

Check the VM settings and make sure anything related to “3D acceleration” or “hardware acceleration” is enabled. Not sure how Parallels does it but I know you have to specifically enable it in Virtualbox.

he can run USF4 just fine we will try that and post the results.

Likely doesn’t work on parallels directx emulation, the iMac is using OpenGL and directx is translated into OpenGL I believe. If he is really into gaming he ought to set up boot camp and run his gaming off of that. He will get better performance and results. Then switch to OSX for his normal desktop use.

He can try to run it under WINE for OS X. WINE translates D3D graphics to OpenGL, and Unreal Engine based games are usually well supported. I use WINE under Linux and most of the time it works fairly well.

The other option that would give full hardware acceleration would be installing Windows XP or Win 7 dual booting between OS X and Windows.
