Serious post, glad to hear bro. dfly knows his stuff, I played him at SB3 not too long ago. Chicago is strongest in Guilty Gear & Soul Calibur, but there are SF heads out there…
again… i cant be any happier than the guys who are understanding the frustration that i was going through. thanks for your support, and giving me tips on how to better my play style. fyi i do find ST fun when playing against friends or cpu. however i do want to get better to compete at tournament level, but i see now that that takes time and lots of patients.
I’m liking how people are inputing their thoughts here on behalf of my earlier attempts to throw in the towel. Early on there were nothing but people bashing me (and they are entitled), but now people are actually trying to help me out.
Like i say there’s getting it done… and not getting it done…
With that said… who wants some games in? you can find me on 2df or ggpo learning from my losses. kudos to everyone!
(PS… my rep is hot son!!.. is that a bad thing?) to everyone!
This thread was awesome.
i’m not that great at (we’re talking high level here) fighting games in general and i have to work twice as hard as other people to get up to their level
just the way things go, if you love fighting games enough it’s something that you are willing to deal with
if not, then WOW
Time for another serious post.
It’s like DS said, this shit doesn’t happen overnight. All you’re “hours on end” that you put in for ST definitely isn’t enough. It comes over a LOT of time. There are some people that are just naturally built for playing these games and know all the things that are needed to be known and my guess is that isn’t you. Trust me, I know because that’s me too. I know I’ll get flack for it but after ST, my game was 3S. I thought I was pretty good until I got wiped online and by other people offline. And I put a few years into the game. Definitely not enough. You always need to be playing, learning, and growing. You never stop. Hell, I just started re-playing ST last week. After almost 12 years of not playing. I blow goats at it. That’s just the way it is. Doesn’t bother me. I enjoy playing it if just for the fact that I like learning and getting comp. I’ll be DLing HD Remix too just so I can play people online so I can get better. It’s all about putting the time in and gaining experience.
People were bashing you because of your initial publicized quitter attitude; I’m pretty sure most everyone who’s played for a while has had the exact same sentiments as you but most chose never to mention it here because it’s a personal issue each player has to overcome. It’s lucky that a few good and helpful folks here like Josh could sympathize with your feelings and provide support.
Anyway, if you want to get better at ST, don’t play the computer. When I first started out, I spent months fighting against the AI and watching JP vids practicing to get better. It helped on some basics but I wasn’t really going anywhere. Anyone else will tell you the same. Just play on GGPO (SF:HD when it comes out) to improve; there are plenty of players of all skill levels.
Another thing you’ll need to stop doing is ragequitting. That’s just insulting. Accept your loss, most important of all learn how to counter your weaknesses, and keep playing. I can’t stress enough how important it is to learn because most scrubs will repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again. The players you’ve been playing who are killing you have spent thousands of hours playing. If you want to do well at a tourney, get ready to spend at least 1000 hours.
Also, should you choose to continue, you’ll encounter many points where you just want to give up. You may encounter someone who seems unbeatable, you may feel you’re wasting too much time, or you may just lose interest. If you choose to stop at these tempting points, it’s probably over (which may or may not be a bad thing). Every strategy in tourney-caliber games has a counter and it’s up to you to find it if you want to overcome each ceiling you face.
If you don’t plan on quitting or whining anymore, then on behalf of the fraternity of ST players, welcome. We can always use more decent players.
This is my favourite sentence of the day. I want to hear a muscular hero shout this in a deep, confident voice.
sounds morgan freeman-esque from wanted. man he had soo many good one liners in that movie. for example…

Hey man, I wouldn’t give up. That’s part of playing fighting games. If you won all the matches, wouldn’t be boring? Everyone will lose to somebody out there. And besides, I think this clip really tells you how to do whatever in life…

Love that show, I have the entire series on DVD. And mine kind of makes sense, and it’s suppose to make him/people laugh. Oh well.
No…but his white Italian clone did

Slevin I’m from chicago and I suck as ST, I’ll gladly play ya. Though my brother on the other hand would probably hand ya a whooping, I only beat him 1 out of 20 games.
If you’re not having fun, then stop. It’s as simple as that.
Winning and losing are meaningless. It only took me 16 years and 100,000 matches to learn that.
Man, I don’t like the idea of crying out on SRK boards, but I understand how you feel.
I’ve been playing Guilty Gear in Japan since GGXX Slash, and believe me, these guys are the incarnation of madness at this game! …I’ve been losing pretty much 99% of my matches (yeah, sometimes you get to play an old salaryman who is there during business hours playing the CPU… these ones are usually beatable).
I used to quit playing video games pretty much every day when I leave the arcade… I say to myself: “Fuck that shit! I’ll never be good at that stupid game! these guys are just like machines and they cheat! fuck that! I quit!”
…but I’ve always found myself in the same arcade on the next day, getting my ass raped again and again…
Now I could get my losing ratio to 89%! …so it’s a great improvmenent IMO, and motivates me to keep on playing! (I still quit everyday after leaving the arcade though… those guys are nuts and Guilty gear sucks ass!)
…but I’ll be there tomorrow! …and the day after tomorrow! …and probably quit again!
Hmmmm… Yeah I hear you!
It’s like marriage and Masturbation:
Firstly, you’re really looking forward to it!
Then, you finally do it, and it feels great!
…And when you’re done, you wonder why the fuck you did that shit!
This thread turn hella gay real fucking quick. What the fuck is this, SRK meets the fucking Lifetime Channel? What’s next, we all write some poetry on how street fighter makes us feel? Come the fuck on.
Here are the three steps you take to get better:
- Play the game.
- Play the game.
- Play the game.
That’s it. Just do it.
I took slevin under my wing on GGPO. Gave him tips and whatnot. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere. I’m not exactly the greatest Dictator player in ST, but I’m willing to help someone get good.
You all need to stop shooting up some internet Deca. Give the guy some fucking slack. Fuck all mighty.
Cause Im NUMBER 1!
Bitch :woot:
