I dont like new players going right into god tier teams

I think this sums up my opinion on this subject quite nicely.

Nah I meant they don’t share on this forum specifically because they aren’t even here to read anything. However I agree some share and some don’t. And I don’t question the reasoning behind why they might not share, most likely STSFN or some people just aren’t good at sharing lol.

…Not

Well the other hidden factor here is that it doesn’t really matter what you discover or try to share unless you are already a well known and respected player… this thread if nothing else… has taught us all that people don’t respect what you have to say unless you’ve played in nationals and done well… other than that it seems like if you do post info… people say… stfu scrub… or some other such nonsense without actually reading or trying what you posted.

Not a lot of motivation for an unknown to share something they discover… better to keep it to yourself and pull it out when it counts. Sad… but I think its the nature of the beast (fighting games).

Can’t say I agree with you titan. I think the problem is the content of what is being shared. For example if someone is trying to say starting to learn low tier first is better than starting to learn top tier first. OF COURSE that person will be corrected until it is PROVEN. What you’re saying is seasoned players don’t read or accept tactics shared by unknowns, which I agree with the reading part. I think new tactics CAN be accepted, they just need to be shown how it’s good in actual gameplay. One can’t just post something and hypothesize that it works in an in-game situation without proving it, obviously. Go to a local gathering, go to tournaments, if the goal is to share new tactics. You need to go to those things anyways to see for yourself if the new tactic is even good, and I’m willing to bet if it is actually good and will help someone win some games, it will be accepted.

Not true. Look at shin, dude wasn’t known for anything, other then some random guy that plays chun(no offense). Then, out of NO where, dude came out with all this NEW SHIT, that he discovered all by his self. He basically took a character that EVERYONE thought was shit, and turned her into a character that could compete. If he never made that combo video showing his new discoveries, we would still to this very day think chun was trash.

Very true alucard… but shin didn’t just pop in here unknown and say: Look chun is a badass… here’s why… and this is how you pull some of that off… if he had… he would have probably just been shot down… but… he made vids… and its hard to tell someone something doesn’t work with the video evidence present. Also… if you really wanna conceptualize how much people really listened to shin… look at chun on the tier rating… I don’t think she moved… in spite of the discovery of a myriad of new possibilities with her… obviously she’s a hell of a lot better with a couple infinites and slick cancels/ways to connect hypers… but that really hasn’t been reflected in the way most players see her… and only a couple people that I know of have taken her on as a serious prospect since then. If sanford, wong, or some other top name in the scene had read what shin posted… and started working out some stuff with it… then took it to a national tourney… she would have probably jumped up the tier rankings at least a few pegs… but what does that say?

Right, just like El Fuerte would jump up in tiers if somebody found out a way to combo his fierce into itself over and over again…

You are deluding yourself.

i think bitching about tactics other people use is lame. if it works for them, it work for them. if not then oh well.

if you really have a problem with top tier then start using low tier

if you cant win with low tier then theres probably reason people dont pick them

I’m pretty sure if anybody seen those vids of shin chun, they wouldn’t still think that she is trash. She isn’t God nor top with these new discoveries, BUT she has moved way up on that tier list.

HeavyD… isn’t it really about success? If something was discovered that legitimately made feurte considerably better… I’d imagine he’d have to move up… tho not to the top by any means.

sleeve… did you read any of the posts in these 6 pages o’ thread. Don’t think anyone has said what you are suggesting at all.

Alucard… if she really did make a decent move up the list thnx to the discoveries… then alright… I’ll buy it. I just don’t remember her moving.

if you ask any decent player if chun is better than before, they will say yes due to shins discoveries. Chun is easily a top 20 character now and if you don’t agree, you probably don’t marvel that well. Shes up there with, mummy, cammy, omega red etc…

it means that top 3 NY don’t take marvel as serious as they used to. I heard wong doesn’t even really play marvel anymore and yipes\sanford are playing sf4 pretty hardcore from my perspective.

I asked baby wolvie to play low tier the other day and he said fuck nah! lol. A lot of good players simply don’t play low tier. I know wong\sanford\yipes USED To play low tier but the only top player from NY who’s actually played low tier with me is j360.

In general… and I feel like this is mostly reflected online… there is sorta a line in the sand between people who only ever play the top few teams… and those who play what they feel like… oddly I’m somewhere between… Spiral/hulk/sent is sorta my compromise team… when it comes to tier selection.

How is chun online? I’d think the input lag would make the stomp xx dash pretty rough to pull off consistently… I haven’t really tried it tho.

No one said that.

I’m incredulous. Are you seriously perpetuating this ridiculously misguided low tier thread while playing Spiral/xxx/Sent as a “compromise?” What tier, exactly, do you think that is? Do you even know what a tier is? In what way is Spiral/who cares/Sent a “compromise” against the majority of online players who are using Guile/Juggernaut/Gambit? On what planet is Spiral/who cares/Sent more “fair” or “honorable” to these players?

I just. My brain hurts.

I wish anytime low tier is discussed, but at the same time Sentinel-y, Doom-b, Tron-y, etc. are mentioned, that the poster would receive an electrical shock.

I have a bitchin’ compromise team of my own. It’s Zangief/Storm/Sentinel. :stuck_out_tongue:

Spiral/Hulk/Sent is a new development I’ve been playing with and I use em against god tier players… Without sent I’d usually run Spiral/Hulk/BB… or for true low tier Bison/Hulk/BB has been fun lately…

I would be surprised if titan actually talks about anything he says that gets debunked. I tried to have a conversation with him about how he wants to share new tactics but he just skipped right over it and went on to babble about something else. Which he probably will do with your post also Dr.D. I also don’t think he understood the sarcasm behind SSGeif lol.

Look I really don’t think I should rattle on any more than i do already… but yes I got the obvious sarcasm. Who cares? I said spiral/hulk/sent was my compromise team… meaning somewhere between low tier and high… but again… really doesn’t matter.

Again… stupid to be explaining this… but I normally pick a team to match my competetion if possible. I like to have fun playing the game. I use spiral/hulk/sent when I’m up against storm/blah/sent… or mags/blah/psy… or cable/blah/capcom…

Truth be told… lately I just play who ever the hell i want… new players should do the same. Think that about closes this thread.

I’ve been trying to play Jill/xx/Psylock

Certainly not low tier, but extremely extremely ghetto rushdown. I started with Jill/Storm/Cyc but I have to learn more shit with Storm to really make that team effective. So much to learn and nowhere near enough time to do it.

Honestly there is just so much to learn in this game. Even if I’m never competitive I can always learn new stuff, good times.

I think the whole thing is that many people do not understand what they watch in videos. Also, you have to play top players and lose to them to understand how you are losing. What put the advantage in their favor? What was I lacking? If you never take those steps on your own, there is nothing yipes or wong or sanford or anyone else can post that will make you be competitive in major tournaments.

Marvel, I believe, is mostly about fundamentals. MOVEMENT, decision making (should i snap or kill? how should i approach cable with 4 meters? how do I play this specific team matchup?) assist calling and counter calling, BLOCKING (or defense in general, you dont always have to block it out), knowing where guardstrings can be escaped (or just knowing the gaps), knowing how to adjust guardstrings according to how the opponent is playing aka reading your opponent (offensively or defensively, to make guardstring unescapable or to make an unescapable one escapable).

Of course execution, combos, and resets play a role in winning, but if you have been playing marvel for a long time you have seen 90% of the crap being done to you before.

I think the stuff that top players hoard is geared more to beating top players. Like wong might hoard something he learned for when he plays sanford or vice versa. Most of the major things get out. Not saying that they all do though; Im sure you and mike got some dirty south exclusive.:china:
