I can't get good at this game at all, help!

It’s too frusterating for me, I’m a longtime KOF and SF player and I just can’t play this. I get raped online for free against everybody and I just don’t know where to begin. What are your tips for a Tekken noob who just can’t get it?

  1. Don’t play online (just yet) - bad place to start for newbies.

  2. Check this link: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=206277

  3. Try out all the characters on arcade mode, see which one flows with your playstyle.

  4. Learn 10 of your chosen character’s moves.

  5. Concentrate on offense not defense i.e if your opponent is on the ground, hit him. If they’re in the air, hit them.

That should do for now.

Fixed

Why didnt you tell him to watch high-level match videos on youtube? There are hundreds.

Would have but had to go toilet. Plus, better for him to start playing and learning the basics FIRST. Youtube vids can help a lot [been using them myself recently], don’t get me wrong on that, but he first needs to get to grips with the system. Then by all means watch as many vids as you want.

p.s; lol @ tataki.

Very useful with lots of good links.

Also learn your characters frame data, hitcheck/hitconfirm and in general base your offense (where you would look to apply mixup pressure) and defense around that. That mostly relates to T5DR but any changes in T6 can be got at Tekkenzaibatsu.

There’s also the beginner’s guide at the top of this forum.

Which character are you using?

I’m using Bruce and want to use HwoBob

Indeed…

You use Bruce?

Get launcher- carry to wall- win.

/sarcasm.

But really, the best way to learn is to just play. Get a few basic BnB combo’s under belt, know some punishers, at least a 10 Frame punisher ( For bruce I like 1,4,3) and work your way up to higher frame punishers and then work on your defense, and slowly add things to your game over time like back dash canceling, throw breaker, side-stepping.

Just remember, you’re not going to pick everything up right away, it’s going to take a bit, espicially if this is your first tekken or 3d game.

Yo, go purchase the strategy guide. That’s what I did. It helps a lot.

haha, hwobob =P

Dumb idea, everything in that strategy guide is on Tekken Zaibatsu or youtube in some form or another.

The only good thing for that guide is to have a move list right next to you, things go so much faster than having to pull up the command all the time.

Other than that, it’s not worth it.

Don’t get the guide, just go to Tekken Zaibatsu. Sooner or later, the guide is gonna be outdated.
