I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

aahh i see. thanks!

yeah i hope she didn’t take no nerfs people might thinks she’s cheap but u have to work for everything

Not sure if this has been poster or just common knowledge, but with healing field active, phoenix’s health is roughly 810,000.

She can increase her health?

I think it’s more of an estimate of how much damage she can take during it. Since HF heals read health. So she’ doesn’t really get a health increase.

Totally random question here, but what exactly is Phoenix saying when she changes into Dark Phoenix? The most logical thing would be “I can’t control it”, but every single time I’ve heard it (and I wear headphones), I keep hearing “It can’t control it”.

You can clearly hear that she’s NOT saying “I” in the way someone would pronounce that when referring to themselves, and it has more of an “eh” sound.

Oh god no.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Not this again.

Sorry that I missed the first 60+ pages of it? Haven’t been reading the forum for a few weeks.

Couple of questions,

  1. can phoenix buffer a teleport as she is getting snapped in/hard tag in or does she have to be physically in play before she can do anything?

  2. how unsafe on block is her j.h attack?

thanks

To “buffer” would mean you do the teleport motion and she would teleport at the exact frame she comes in. Well no. That doesn’t work. You have to be on the screen before you can do anything and before a motion can register.

That’s a weird question.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Unsafe from what?

for my first question, I was hoping for a way to instantly appear behind someone as another option to get out of the corner when first brought in. Too bad it does not work.

As for my second question I meant like frame advantage wise, how many frames do they have to punish that attack if they block it before I can guard or do anything? for example sentinel’s c.m has -8 recovery frames if it is blocked so any attack 8 frames or lower will hit him granted they reach him. All the frame data is in the strategy guide and no1 has given out the information online and I don’t have the book.

The reason I ask is that is usually my choice move to use when I cross up most characters and so trying to see how unsafe it really is.

Thanks again

so is anyone using DPh without lvl 3 X-factor? Thoughts? I been messing around with her again and I’m trying to learn her without the X-fac crutch. It’s certainly “interesting…”

To be honest, this can make some sense.
DPHX already can kill in one combo basically, so xf3 isn’t needed from that.
Traps still wall bounce and cause all sorts of havoc.
You’re still going to die in one combo.

What kinda hurts is the loss of insane chip for you and your vulnerability to that same chip. If DPHX doesn’t have XF and dormmamu does, that’s a dead character.

Her heal super is great though. It practically doubles her life if the opponent is hitting her in it. It also makes it REALLY hard to see traps, lows, and overheads.

You could convert to DPHX, tag her out, and just use her as a DHC glitch for a dead character, mixup the next then bail.

Yea there are alot of thing I can say about it. As you mentioned, the biggest threat immediately after her transformation is chip damage cause she’s got no super for healing field. Right now I’m just doing fireball + teleport mixups to land an easy combo and get that first bar. I pop healing field immediately once I’m safe. From there the match depends heavily on my opponent and what characters he’s playing. The good thing about using DPh early is that you still have access to your assists which can aid in lockdown/projectiles/whatever.

Also, more importantly (IMHO) is that it becomes much harder for people to lame you out since you’ll still have at least one of your partners alive. I think it’s a decent alternative compared to the other two scenarios you typically see with Phoenix players:

  1. They never use her until she’s the last character and has (almost) 5 bars. It’s easy to lame out normal Phoenix in this scenario if you have a good life lead. This also limits your meter usage for your other two characters for the entire match.

  2. They tag her in when she gets 5 bars. Go DPh and immediately tag out DPh for later. The worst thing about this is that when DPh comes in as the last character she is extremely vulnerable to chip or a solid mixup before she touches the ground to pop XF. The mixup is the worst because if she guesses wrong she’s dead in one combo.

So yea I’m trying to play her early to avoid those scenarios. She’s still really fucking solid without XF and healing field heals her so quickly that she can lame out alot of characters with air fireballs, teleport, and have most of her red life recover while she’s comboing the opponent.

I sometimes pop XF with her early if I’m about to lose her to chip but again that’s heavily dependent on matchups. I think the worst thing she has to deal with is people super jumping away while her red life drains. It’s hard to get close enough to them in order to get a good health boost from healing field. Just something I gotta work on more…

I will say that using her like this has caused me to explore more of her normals and their properties. Her jumping H is really fucking good for covering air space above her since it shoots feathers up in a 180 degree arc. Its excellent for chasing down super jumpers and to stop them from attacking you above.

Playing DPh early as cause you opponent to sometimes gets reckless with their offense which can work in your favor. I’ve seen people even pop XF early or use random supers, or back off and wait for the hard tag. If they pop XF and have a good chip character then yea I’ll tag her out ASAP.

I completely forgot about using the DHC glitch with her. Good shit. If I am forced to tag her out early due to the opponent popping XF (or me not getting a chance to get close for healing field boost), then I still try to bring her back in before she’s the last character. Her red life heals so fast as an assist anyway so her down time isn’t that long at all.

I think #1 scenario is ultimately best. I mean even with using Dark Phoenix early you’re still going to tag her out at some point right? Which just turns you into scenario #2. After watching clockw0rk for so many weeks, I really don’t think running from phoenix is an option for really any character if you level up your phoenix enough. Seriously I’ve never seen clock get timed out in that situation. My only problem with leaving regular phoenix with 5 bars till the end is you aren’t able to get the transformation out of the way and thus have more meter available to your other characters (and dark phoenix herself when she comes in) but at the end of the day the risk of mixups/chip is too big if dark phoenix is coming in last (if the opponent has dorm or akuma or someone like that sometimes i will activate x-factor right before my second to last character dies so dark phoenix comes in already x-factord).

Hey guys new Phoenix player here.

The thing is with me I wanna play Phoenix as Phoenix. Don’t wanna have to save 5 meters, just doesn’t appeal to my playstyle.

Problem is, Phoenix is too weak. Have to put up healing fields every so often, and her health is ass, so I practically can’t use her assists. She’s also too easily chipped out as well.

Any tips on getting in and dealing with zoning? Teleport is too easily predicted, and down H gets stuffed after a while too.

If you really don’t wanna save her for 5 meters and don’t want to use her assists…then why don’t you just use her on point? And use your other character’s assists to help?

Also, with her abilities to fly, her 8-way air dashes, and her very fast ground dashes, you should be able to get in. The problem is she can’t take a lot of chip damage or get hits.

Air-to-air, almost nothing is getting through air:h:. Her air grab has a lot of priority and you can combo off it near a corner. Air :s: is actually a much better jump-in than :d:+:h:.

She really has Magneto rushdown potential except she can’t build meter like he can (that I know of). I don’t really play Phoenix as a rushdown character because I’m a bit fearful of getting randomed. I try to pick and choose my spots and hit-and-run. Plus, I love setting her traps on the field.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Air :h:TK Shot, :h:Teleport, :d:+:h:, call assist, :m:teleport I use this a lot to try to break someone down if I have a moment after Jean gets snapbacked in and I survive it.

She builds meter faster than anyone in the game

Phoenix getting ran away from is like day one Final Round scrub ass Phoenix shit. People should have her rushdown game enough if they main her to force people to start hitting her or lose characters. If you’re not an awesome Phoenix player like me you can rushdown with regular Phoenix on point for a bit if you lost your first 2 early and then turn on XF and make sure they start hitting you. The damage you’ll do if u touch them with anything in XF will get them to bring out D.Phoenix early or risk losing all their characters.

If you wanna play Phoenix as Phoenix it’s risky but your best bet is to get her offense completely down. Learn to set up teleports off of H TK shots and set up traps to protect yourself from offense while calling assists when u need some time to start up another offense. Make sure you build up your high low game with her air dash down forward L/c.L game. Throw/air throw people that block or jump away too much trying to avoid your 5 bar Phoenix. Whatever you do dont use super meter unless it will kill a character. No reason really IMO to use Healing Field if you’re regular Phoenix…the whole point is to not get hit any way. Save it for D.Phoenix who needs it when she runs out of XF.

Agree’d last tourney i went to here in NY i played 2 phoenix mirrior matches out of the 5 matches i played. Went 3-2 and diddn’t lose to a single phoenix mirror. To be honest, the character people should be crying about is our buddy the battery… Ablert. I think i spend more time trying to convince people i’m not a brainless scrub with an autowin button, because that’s not what phoenix is. Who cares tho? Just play the characters you want and screw the rest.

Tho I am afraid of playing phoenix these days, after watching Yipes murder phoenix teams with extreme prejudice during Guard Crush… makes me wish i diddn’t live here on the EC lol.

I can’t decide on the team i wanna play either these days, i know this ain’t the team thread but anyone got suggestions? I lay Trish/Ammy/Phoenix and Wolvie/ammy/Phoenix, i was thinking of trying Wolvie/Tron/Phoenix.
