Honestly I find the prospect of getting her into DPh and using her as an assist to be interesting. Her projectiles to great chip and she seemed to regen faster as DPh when she wasn’t on point than most others, maybe I am just seeing things.
Between her teleport and solid lock down assists I think she can pour on the damage. I am thinking maybe Ammy and Chun for assists.
Does anyone know if the projectiles she shoots out in DPh mode do chip?
You can’t be viable with that kinda health. Theres too much randomness in this game for her to not die.
The only way she could work is if you save her for last with 5 bars + x- factor. Anything else is just a waste of a team slot - and even then most characters can just go just as bat shit crazy with x factor without the cost of 5 bars and will probably have more heallth.

Well, put. She looks (from little I’ve seen) to deal good damage from average combos without DFh active. Couple that with her many offensive options of getting in and mixing up and she looks like she’ll be fine. Perhaps not scrub friendly, but fine. Once her hard hitting stuff comes out it looks like it might just be which character scores that first hit and Phoenix appears to have better options for that. Also, I too thought her assist would be to risky, but her TK Drive atleast convinces me otherwise. Not sure of the others (I’m interested in seeing them), but TK Drive looks to be used for some combo extenders and is fast as hell when used just naked. I’m not seeing it punished easily if at all. I’m curious to see her TK Shot and TK Trap assist. Also, even if she gets “randomed out” you should still have 2 other characters left for clean up duty.
So I was watching a few other vids with Phoenix and I am wondering if she takes more red damage than real damage maybe. That could potentially make her pretty sturdy (well sturdier anyway) with healing field. Staying in doesn’t seem to be that hard with her with teleport and all.
Phoenix players will have to learn to deal with constant snapbacks. Does anyone have any interesting ideas for countering that, or atleast nullifying it so you can safely tag her back out? I’m not sure what are the rules about how long you have to wait before you can attack once you jump in, but maybe it’s possible for her to teleport as soon as she enters the screen? And if that becomes too predictable, one of her normals in the air where she breathes fire has massive range, maybe that can be used to stuff any rushdown attempts as she’s coming in.
Then there are things like AA grabs like Spidey’s level 3 which can catch opponent’s jumping in, but rumor is that they can’t grab opponents right away due to a small frame of temporary invulnerability from grabs.
Her TK Shot is actually shown in one of the gameplay videos - I think one of the Sentinel/Hsien-ko unveil videos. The fireball travels very fast and doesn’t seem to home much.
Going by your logic Fuerte was one of the most broken characters in SFIV with the potential to semi-infinite you with his run-stop-fierce loop until dizzy.
In her reveal vid she was able to do A,B,C xx TK Drive, launcher–>air series, etc.
So it’ll definitely have uses in combos and it looks like it has good recovery. Won’t know for sure until someone plays her or the game drops.
Her TK shot assist is just the fast version of her fireball. It travels straight across the screen and doesn’t track the opponent.
I’m still of the opinion that her two partners need really good synergy by themselves “just in case” lol. She looks like she’ll end up having so many options in DPh, that she won’t absolutely need a certain type of assist–with the possible exception of AA. So I’d make sure her partners do a good job of keeping themselves protected.
I think Storm (typhoon) / Ammy (coldstar) / Phoenix will be good. Ammy assists will benefit either character’s rushdown. Typhoon assist will just add to all the long range shit DPh can put on the screen (and use as a mask for teleport). They should have really good DHC synergy if needed, both on hit and on block when you have to safely tag someone out. However, ideally you wanna save dat meter and that means minimal use of Ice Storm. Storm + Ammy assist should be a very strong rushdown combo–similar to Storm + Chun legs that Justine was doing. My main concern for this team is dealing with keep-away, and the lack of AA. I think they’ll manage without the AA, but keep-away could be a problem.
You said Phoenix’s health is a decent trade off because she has the most potential to be the best character in the game.
Phoenix dies in ONE hit. Thats not an adequate trade off when you factor in the necessity for her to have 5 bars on point to become “the best character in the game.”
