I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

Does healing field recover health even while getting hit?

If so, that’s why she has low health - she’ll get back the red damage while being comboed.

Phoenix on point. Switch when you’re about to die since you most likely don’t have 5 levels yet. When you have five levels, switch her back around the time you know you’d be able to finish someone off. Die, DP, do as much as you can until you’re around 1/4th and then switch out again (if that’s possible while in DP) – repeat.

I really can’t see that being better than simply using meters smartly, but hey…

how do you switch when you’re about to die if you die in one combo?

I don’t think it takes always exactly one combo to kill her.

You would obviously be the aggressor in that scenario, and the only health you should be losing is from the form.

Limitation on the lvl1 heal seems to be:

  1. your opponent has to be in the shield AND they have to block hits?
  2. Only red bar can be healed?
  3. can be stopped if hit out of it??
  4. can be used together with lvl5???

A lot of unknowns

Whats up with the meter build on Dark Phoenix? She built like 2 meters in one combo and it was like 6 hits…

Sup, Duckie! I dunno, I’m not a huge Phoenix fan. But she does look pretty scrong.

I didn’t catch the first one. I hope that’s true, that would make it a lot more interesting since I was worried she’d be able to just runaway and heal with a lvl1. But I do kinda think it’s only gonna be for red bar. Even with the “rush down to heal” aspect, being able to heal all of your energy, as fast as it’s currently healing, with as meter-friendly the game is, would probably be a bit too much.

after watching it again, chun li is clearly blocking hits and phoenix is gaining life. I think if used with lvl 5, it can be good. You’ll be losing life but gain a lot it back by just rushing down and getting blocked. You can safely set it up by activating your lvl1 then using homing fireballs and following it up as it is blocked.

Phoenix replaced Cyclops =[

teleportation=gay. resurrection looks anger inducing, but i guess just dont let your opponent build 5 meters

Her red health was going up when she changed sides on Chun Li, it seems to work only when your opponent is in that shield, no need to be attacking them… it stopped healing as soon as Chun Li pushblocked Jean out… so no runaway healing…

Considering it takes all possible bars to even activate Dark Phoenix they’ve obviously increased her meter gain.

That’s the golden rule of any FG.

You can notice this with a single 1-minute video? Claiming a character’s tier position before a game is even out is just plain silly. We have no idea of how the game will pan out over time.

I think we should all prepare to figure out combos, setups, team synergy, AAs, and all that other good stuff when the game is out and not worry about how good/bad she may be.

sorry, but these kinds of touch-and-go characters rarely end up being good based on simple fundamentals alone. I’m not saying that she’ll be low tier for sure, but the way she’s looking now, it seems unlikely.

Another thing - once she hits Dark Pheonix mode, what’s stopping the opponent from quickly chipping her to death with a series of supers > kfc > supers? I recall someone saying that two floating bombs from Dormmu is already half a character’s life bar. Add that to the fact that her life bar constantly drains and well…she’d better have a super that lets her counter other supers with relative ease.

Phoenix’s tri-dash didnt overhead in the video

That’s not really true.
SF4 Akuma has awful health/stun. Top tier.
3S Yun/Chun low health. Top tier.
MvC2 Magneto/Storm bad health. Top tier.
MvC1 Red Venom infinitesimal health. Top tier (hell, he arguably breaks the game with the BS infinites he has, and he can die in ONE combo)

Low health on really really good characters does nothing except make those characters harder to play for the masses. The question is if Phoenix has enough BS to put her in those ranks.

Well look at magneto and storm in mvc 2? Both incredibly soft characters that were top tier in that game, look at akuma and seth in sf 4, look at dante in marvel 3 in fact. Yes you raise some interesting points, but it is far far too early to make any assumptions of her tier position.

Honestly, I’m very depressed about her health. Capcom gives me my favorite character but decide to fuck her over. It’s like giving me a million dollars but telling me I only have an hour to spend it all or it’ll get taken away.

With that being said, I’m fully prepared to learn how to use her as best I can. She will be in my main team (which is looking like Dante/Sentinel/Phoenix right now) and I will make it work!

Also just noticed the dark phoenix crazy meter gain. Fuck yes.

I hope we get a look @ her assists later today…

It’s possible we haven’t even seen all her moves. Does she has a DP? What are the properties of her supers? Can she teleport to high altitude from the ground? How will all these things play out using specific assists?

This is a team-based game, and there are loads of factors that come into play depending on team-specific details. Storm/Roll/Servbot in MvC2 is not top tier.

As for Phoenix, I had a different perspective when watching the video. I saw fast moves with range, full screen projectiles (including homing/slow/trap-based ones after being transformed), an 8-way air dash (this is useful for more than just tri-jumping), at least one OTG setup, teleport (can be used to escape setups, not just for offense), healing, etc.

Plenty of things we don’t know about her, but nothing more important than the synergy she may have with the right partners.
