I’d like to get some critic of my Evil Ryu gameplay, not my best moments since lately i’ve been stuck in a hole, getting worse and losing alot of pp. Sorry for the bad quality.
Sup man, I’m no pro but I think I can offer a little insight.
Before I proceed with the Yun match, I want to say that I’m not incredibly experienced, but here’s what I’ve found. Some other people can correct me if I’m wrong here. In the Yun match, I think one of the biggest things I noticed was you kind of overused your focus attack. Yun has 93,870 ways to break glass so try to use it sparingly. I’ve found Evil Ryu’s normals do pretty well against Yun, so I’d recommend you experiment a bit with them to see what does well against what. St. MP and st. MK are my favorites, but of course st. HK and st. HP are also very useful.
Also, at one point you were fullscreen from him, and threw some fireballs… Don’t (unless you’ve read the player and think they won’t Palm the hell out of every single one and build Super meter for free). Genei Jin is toooooo good. You don’t want him to have it. In this kind of situation, I would take advantage of E.Ryu’s good mobility, creep forward, inch by inch, and be ready to block (or stuff, if you’re feeling confident) in case Yun throws out a Lunge Punch. Close the gap and keep that pressure on. Make him respect when you have 2 stocks of meter and an Ultra charged.Yun is strong as hell but he doesn’t take damage very good, so play that to your advantage and dish out the pain anytime he guesses wrong, because heaven knows he’s going to do the same to you.
In the Ryu match, I think you were way more confident, which is understandable since… it’s Ryu. lol. But yeah, overall you played much better here. Great reactions, your AA was on-point… However, the second round it looked like you lost your steam about halfway through. Again, make him respect 2 bars and an Ultra, ESPECIALLY if, as a Ryu himself, he does not have the same at his disposal. Overall you did good here.
Thank you veeeery much for the answer, i’m going to try to implent some of the stuff you said into my game. It’s a lot easier to get better if you hear a 3rd persons opinion. Again thank you very much!
So is it starting to look like we may never get official frame data on Evil Ryu and Oni?
In that video, uou can see Poongko using cr.lp instead of cr.mp in Evil Ryu’s classic combo (after an mk ds), and that got me wondering how tight the link is when you use cr. mp (presumably with cr.lp you have 1 frame more leeway)
If you plink it you kind of get a huge chance on it. Because even if c.mp doesn’t come out either time, you still have that frame advantage for c.lp to come out as well.
I’m not sure if that’s actually how frame data works, but thats how I always rationale it in my head.
I’ll just leave this here.
Apparantly it’s going to be in the AE guide coming out at the end of this month. Regardless, you can work out the frame data anyway, I did and I posted a lot of it on the 5th page of the general discussion thread.
As for your queery;
cr.LP is 3 frames startup.
cr.MP is 4 frames startup.
MK AK to cr.MP is a 1 frame link, but it’s plinkable and so is just as easy as MK AK to cr.LP, which is not viably plinkable (You can plink with start/select).
It’s odd that Poongko did that tatsu dash under reset and then did cr.LP though. The mixup there is left and right, so you should lead into cl.HP xx MK AK/FB FADC > and so on, because if they’re not blocking the right way then there’s no need to do the cr.LP. Not sure how old the clip is though, so meh.
I don’t even know if I am plinking but I do tap LP+MP and MP gets under the command, but it doesn’t combo unlike when I just tap MP in a timing, I connect it without plinking
The only thing I would like to learn is cr. jab into heavy punch at close, but that timing is so general I can’t even connect it consistenly thats one thing I need to learn plinking
Im going to try and upload some matches from every sitting I put some serious time into.
Heres a couple to get things started (sorry its not direct capture, but I feel it looks fine, watch in 480)
Vs Vega
Vs Chun
Still working on my E.Ryu, hardest thing is the fact you cant make a mistake and you must emphasize on every one made against you. Love the character though!
Your good with Evil Ryu, better then mine, you use dive kick way more then I do and I like U2 over U1, when you punish someone you punish him bad
Thanks! It’s so easy to get BLOWN THE FUCK UP with him though He’s still fun to me though.
And I usually always use U2 because it can be a great anti air.
Yang blows me up, low kick 2x 3x slash and then more bullshit on wakeup
Looked like you didn’t really know what to do after a back throw. If you dash forward right away, you can use dive kicks just like you would off f.throw. Not sure if you can get it to safe jump 4f reversals, but you can get dps to go the other way, and i think it’s even more ambiguous than off f.throw.
Nice Evil Ryu Aleri, I see you use dive kick a lot, which I also do. Your execution is much better though, I drop combos and FADC’s quite a bit. Just wondering, are you applying axe kick pressure at all in your game right now? Not many Evil Ryu players are doing it, but I think in the future we’ll find that it’s integral to his game.
Thanks a lot for that, I havent had much time to look around online and havent found anything off of back throw, ADDED to my arsenal XD
I LOVE his axe kick and have been slowly working on ways to integrate it into my game, A lot of the times I will use medium axe kick ( for some reason people love to press something after this move) to bait a reversal of any sort and go into DP right afterwards if I have the meter to FADC, I dont hoard meter with E.Ryu since I can get it back fairly fast, in the long run it helps me not feel shackled to my meters.
It’s not all about finding stuff online. I found that one on my own. A brand new character like eryu, you need to do a lot of your own experimenting. You’re welcome, tho.
some really great show of what he can do in only a couple quick rounds. I really liked your use of meter for the counter hit setup and the reset on the stun combo for the kill attempt.
first combo of the vega match you went for a reset instead of the early damage lead which I didn’t like but, I think that’s more a personal opinion thing because I can see the risk/reward for landing a reset early on. I just prefer to save my tricks until i NEED the damage later.
good stuff though, i’d watch more in the future
I guess I phrased that wrong haha, I havent had much time at all between being a father and having a job to “discover” many things, whether it be online or in the danger room. But im really beginning to love his setups after throws, so ill def be experimenting further.
XD yeah I get real stun heavy, its the main thing that attracted me to E.Ryu , when my internal stun meter is reaching max level I get Crazy Thank you though, Ill be posting some more vids tonight, Critique is the best form of getting better, Ive trained a lot on my own for about 3 years, so im seeing if getting outside help will help me get past this barrier ive hit.
But your right on saving tricks, I just feel that if I can get the lead early on in the Vega matchup, I can control the pace of that round.
Have some new videos up, will be putting more at some time later.
Vs Ken
-I personally hate this fight, I feel that ken has a leg up on E.Ryu with his dominating footsies and awesome AA’s
Vs Dhalsim
-Really didnt have XP in this matchup so I approached the best I could, after this fight though I really grasped the matchup.
