Hypothetical GGPO questions (Atomiswave & Naomi related)

I searched, didn’t find anything. So I hope what I ask hasn’t been repeated.

Question 1: Is it feasible for Final Burn Alpha to handle Naomi/Atomiswave emulation? Have the team(s) behind FBA shown interest in Atomiswave/Naomi?

Question 2: From what I understand, Ponder utilizes a specially modified save state in each game on GGPO. With the problems encountered with 3rd Strike (Black lines, lag at 100 ping, etc) how likely is it for Ponder to get Atomiswave/Naomi games running at optimal speeds, considering that both are at least 10X more powerful than CPSIII?

Question 3: Let’s say GGPO becomes a pay service, it skirts that legal gray area where it doesn’t provide roms, you just happen to find them and use them in conjunction with the service. As a Pay Service, it features virtually every game worth a damn by SNK/Capcom including some variables like the Metal Slug series, various beat 'em ups, Twinkle Star Sprites etc, and all of the notable games on Atomiswave/Naomi (MVC2, Hokuto No Ken, Rumble Fish 2, KOF XI, Neo Geo Battle Colosseum, CVS 2, etc) all featuring quality online play across the continents. How much would you pay for this service?

Naomi board has not been hacked yet. so you won’t be able to see any of those game period.

It’s going to be a long while before we see any online play with the Naomi/Atomiswave games. You can probably also post this in the GGPO forum.

Ponder has said before in interviews that making money off of it in that way could get him into legal trouble. So I doubt you’ll see that.

Hmmm… wasn’t the Atomiswave recently emulated?? I remember reading about it in here.

Yeah dude, Naomi and Atomiswave work on Demul. There’s all ready progress for MAME too.

It’s going to be such a long time. They haven’t even dumped any games you would want to play online except Fist of the North Star. Don’t expect any kind of online GGPO talk to even start until they have every relevant game dumped.

he would need the source code to get the games to work well with ggpo afaik

Even if Atomiswave and Atomiswave is emulated, its totally impossible to run those machines on FBA anyway.

Are there any netplay options for the DC ports? From what I’ve understood most of the arcade to DC ports are almost if not are Arcade Perfect, so this can be a solution too

DC Netplay sucks atm, can’t even play with a person 10 minutes away without lagging to death.

Doesn’t 2df’s build of FBA fix the issues with SF3?I notice my SF3 lags and skips a lot whenever I’m on GGPO, but on 2df it’s fine.

Anyways…why is it impossible to run Atomiswave on FBA, other than the fact that it’s not implemented at all?Is it the way it’s programmed or what?

Huh? Most games you’d want to play have already been dumped. The only exceptions are GGXXAC and MBAA.

2DF 3S has variable delay. It’s the same as playing on p2p kaillera.

FBA is a MAME-based emulator, FBA needs to support HLE and a lot of heavy-level-emulation stuff in order to work… the FBA author almost need to remade the emulator from scratch and thats not the idea.

Say wha? By god, the netcode for 2df wasn’t GGPO quality? It felt like I was neighbors with the person I was playing, even with a guy from Turkey that I played. Shoot, then if I upgrade my CPU specs (I’m certain it’s the computer I’m on, it’s pretty old) then GGPO shall certainly be optimal. If only they’d update the game list to include more NeoGeo fighters like SamShoVSP, Matrimelee, etc, then I’d have no reason to even use 2df anymore.

EDIT: Ah, thanks, Hayama. I’ve been out of the emulation/homebrew loop for a few years now, so I’m a bit outdated with my knowledge. I still live in a world where CPS3 is supposedly impossible to emulate and CHDs are the next big thing =P

Dolphin (Gamecube/Wii emu) has kaillera support, isnt it possible to hook it to GGPO too?

And the bolded is reason enough to make the FBA author remake the emulator at gunpoint.

online GGAC I would jump for joy in the streets. I suck but some GG online is better than none

there are 3 Naomi/Atomiswave emulators: Makaron, Demul and NullDC… none of which are open source

the most advanced is Makaron: http://dknute.livejournal.com/

i asked the author if he plans to make this open source and he doesn’t want to (yet), although emulation on titles we’re interested in is pretty much done (there’s of course still room for a bit of optimization)

Naomi/Atomiswave are not necessarily required to be emulated in Final Burn Alpha for Ponder to use on GGPO… he can use any open source emulator

PS: Dolphin already runs Tatsunok vs Capcom almost flawlessly. it is open source and even has netplay… although i never got the chance to play anyone with it
