Oh yeah definitely some “hype” is quality like for example “that match” with Daigo Vs Justine when he parries Chun li and the crowd goes wild that is awesome, but you see sometimes people go overboard over daft little things and scream out trash talk, thats what I don’t like.
You know what, you’re right. We should ban Hype, or limit Hype at tournaments to help the community.
No wait…what??
You’re using the word “hype” as a blanket statement covering everything from trash talk to people being outright rude to each other. That’s not hype. That’s being rude and talking thrash to each other. This isn’t a question of “hype”, it’s a question of etiquette and social dynamics. Getting hype is just building interest for a tournament, or cheering your player on. This is a stupid thread based on exaggerated and misunderstood semantics. You’re a rather silly person, and should probably stop making threads now.
P.S., Get off Japan’s nuts.
If that’s hype then I’m all for it.
no matter how fun street fighter may be, people need to realize that it’s still just a bunch of pictures on a screen.
If you’ve never been to a tournament, I respectfully request that you please don’t post more than twenty words regarding your own personal understandings and opinions of competitive hype.
However, I think it would be interesting to hear from new players about what sorts of hype make you want to come to gatherings and tournaments, and what sorts of hype make you want to avoid the whole scene.
Well, I haven’t been to street fighter tourneys, but I have been to card game tourneys…
Any trash talk that even remotely sounds serious turns me off. I love watching videos where a random guy shouts a random trash phrase or two, like “GO BACK TO MARVEL! MARVEL’S RIGHT OVER THERE!” It’s funny and adds to the fun. But when people are actually trying to put someone down it just detracts from the whole thing.
Note join dates in this thread.
Yeah. New players don’t like trash talk. Want the community to grow? Listen to the new players.
It’s really not so constant/bad as some vids will lead you to believe. Big tournies always get loud, and sometimes there’s serious trash talk, but usually it’s just lowed cheering. The trash talk tends to be between those betting more than anything, or big rivalries. Rarely ever are you gonna see someone talk a bunch of garbage to someone who doesn’t go looking for it.
Just go to this year’s EVO to see how it is. There’s a lot of quiet and reserved people as well.
And there’s vids of JPs calling other players out, talking ‘trash,’ and all that jazz. I’m just going off hearsay and vids for this, so grain of salt, but it seems to be a lot more reserved in volume/words but it’s still very much there, the egos.
Stereotype, meet blanket statement (and a false one at that). Of course some new members talk shit, join date has jack all to do with that. Look at the closed MM Vega thread for an example haha. But with that, join dates have jack all to do with the topic of this thread all together.
That sort of “hype” is straight up retarded. If you can’t find a way to motivate yourself to get better without someone calling you a cocksucker, then there’s something wrong with you. This shit doesn’t need to be motivated by anger.
If other people want to act like tools, that’s fine, but you guys really need to stop perpetuating this belief that “hate = results.” It’s not true, and all it’s going to do is scare off the newcomers that the scene needs so desperately.
Dumb.
trash talking is really lame and irritating… but i guess thats the point
im not really a tournament player or anything so it never really effects me but i can only imagine how disgusted it would make me.
Its all part of mind games imo.
Man up.
Grow up.
Nice comeback.
Keep whining about the “hype” at tournaments that you’ve been watching on youtube kiddo.
All you 2009 guys need a LOT thicker skin.
Find your spot where you can be secure enough that any trash talk doesn’t rattle you or send you into a hissy fit.
Join dates don’t mean anything. I have been an avid street fighter fan for years, since the release of world warrior back in '92. sure sfiv can be connected to a lot of new registrations, but what does it really mean? that the fighting community has to be completely exclusive? hell, if daigo made an srk, the 09 would always bring him down, like all the other 09 registrees here.
EDIT: I just realized that my post is completely irrelevant. sorry. but seriously, trash talk is fine by me, but there are definitely people out there who can’t take the heat.
The difference being Daigo wouldn’t post increasingly stupid thread topics, spew uneducated drivel about how you think ‘tiers’ should be arranged, and ludicrous changes to the game after just starting to play.
Does it apply to every 08/09 member? No, but the good ones are few and far between.
Getting pumped up is cool. Yelling is cool. Being genuinely hateful is just stupid.
I figured this thread could spark some (possibly heated) debate. Obviously it’s not a useless thread if people have strong opinions on this.
I haven’t been to many tourneys or arcades since the early 90s. Maybe a couple of YouTube vids make it seem worse than it is. Like I said, I’m withholding judgment until I’m more experienced. I wasn’t saying Japan does it right and we do it wrong. The reason I started the thread is precisely because I don’t know how they act when they play, that’s all.
P.S. I’m not about to say join date means nothing, but it doesn’t mean THAT much. Many new posters are intelligent, chill, and passionate about the game.
P.P.S. Calling somone a “faggot” and getting in his face doesn’t make you a man. Many would say it makes you a toddler.
Stop trolling plz.
