Hi guys, I’d like to ask you to take a look at a set I played against Alioune yesterday.
If you can please let me know what bad habits I need to lose and what I can do to play this matchup better.
Some details to fill you in:

[]I haven’t played MvC3 seriously in a long time, probably since August, I was using Hulk SheHulk and Spencer in Vanilla and did pretty well, but that archetype of team doesn’t work anymore in Ultimate due to improved keepaway. So, I know my play is sub-par, but try to pick up on things I can improve.
[]I have been playing Dorm and Doom for like two days really, so don’t judge them, I know I need to work on them a lot. I do like this team however, I have some really good combo extenders for Hulk with both assists, and if Hulk dies, I still have two great characters to do damage with. The only real problem I see in this team is no (useful) gamma tornado follow-up. Any comments on the team?
[*]What can I do in the Hulk vs Mags matchup if he just runs away the whole time? He was mostly doing superjump tri-dash away. If I sj.S it’s really unsafe and hard to hit, and if I don’t get near him quickly he calls out missiles or hole for the easy forced mixup.

Try not to call doom beam and then jump. You should get into the habit of dashing instead.
Here’s why: 3 scenarios:
- They get hit with beam, in which you can’t convert into a combo so it doesn’t matter if you jump or dash. But if you dash you can cancel it into a jump to chase farther and faster.
- They super to punish doom, in which you can’t use gamma crush to punish because you are in the air.
- They block the beam (most common). Since you dash, you are closer to them and your feet are planted, which is the best situation for hulk to be in, super armor/commandthrow/low mixups. If you jump in the air, you have no mixups and you can get air thrown and push blocked.
Not sure why you keep walking/dashing back to full screen away especially against zoning characters.
Against characters with fast pokes that can break :h: armor, use more. You use :h: way too much, when in a lot of cases if you pressed instead, it would have punished something not safe.
Similarly use AA Gamma charge :h: followup more outside of corner. It has super armor going up and down, so it will eat disruptors, it cancels your armor attacks for more armored stuff, and it gives you a combo if they decide to try and jump in on you.
In the corner when a character is coming in, you do :h: xx AA Gamma charge :h: follow up. This doesn’t really do too much. :h: is good, but don’t cancel it so quickly into the AA Gamma charge. It has massive hitstun, you need to get into the habit of waiting for the hitstun to dissipate first before doing AA Gamma charge. That way you can see if the :h: hits so you can combo regularly, or you can do the AA Gamma charge as a frame trap. If they push block the :h: you can call dorm and then do the AA Gamma charge to stay in their face.
Full screen Gamma charge :l: followups are a no-no especially since you have no assist to make them safe other than burning a meter on a super.
This may not apply to a matchup such as magneto, but don’t jump to move in if its not necessary. You are better off walking forward or calling Doom + dash. Think of Hulk as a walking wall. Don’t let them get over you.
SJ. :h: is good to stop momentum if they try to go under you, and air :s: is great for cross ups. Do the air :h: first, and do the air :s: low to the ground.
Always chicken block the missiles or hole when you can, and it gets rid of the forced mixup.
Overall I see a lot of the time where you do things out of habit rather than assessing the situation of the match or trying to read the player. Example being you could have chipped characters out with regular gamma charge but instead you do AA gamma charge for no real reason other than habit.

Heh, thanks dude. Horizontal charge gaining super armor is an underrated buff that I couldn’t pass up for the team. Gamma Wave is still decent since it otg’s, but I’ve got Wesker for that. lol

Yeah, I am actually. They will be up for pre-orders in May. I know the combofiend match could be annoying but it was 4am in the morning and we were all pretty hyped lol.

Nice matches. My only suggestion is that unless in certain match-ups you like to use a certain Dante assist, I would use his Crystal OTG assist as a combo extender with Hulk. I use Deadpool’s OTG assist with Hulk on point and I can kill 900k health characters from a single standing H anywhere on the screen, with one bar. Your Hulk bnb is stylish, but IMO you should use Doom primarily for making Hulk safe/getting in.
thanks! and yea you are right I do need to keep Dante’s Crystal assist in mind, I already have that assist assigned to Dante, but I’m so concerned doing corner to corner Hulk BnB’s with Doom missiles I forget that if I already have them in the corner, I can use crystal for the relaunch instead of missiles, sigh it’s small things like these that are going to bring out the most in my team, I just need to remember…(-_-)

point char with otg / hulk / achor that has assist to help get in. Doom missles help get in AND extend combos. too beast… I play shehulk on point but the dante otg assist work the same. Yea Hulk/Doom Missiles sooooooo GOOD!!! lol, I like how you do jumping S into standing M and then relaunch with Doom missiles, i might have to steal that from you, so now I don’t have to use my wall bounce with gamma charge.
Watching both you guys matches, a lot of hulk combos are un-optimized.
For example, Slayer Alex, you can do a lot of AA-gamma charge extensions when you call she-hulk. Hulk can utilize ground and wall bounce in his combos now, so every combo should have both. Corner against most characters, you can do a free extension if you do :l: gamma wave ->:h:~:h: AA gamma charge in combos where you haven’t yet. Free damage. or do :h:~:m: AA Gamma charge.
Stepsz: You should wait longer before you cancel your :h: into Gamma charges. The whole point is to make people think they can punish it, then plow through their button presses with Armored Gamma charges.
I also used to use Hulk with Doom missiles and there is still stuff it seems that you both have yet to explore.
It will do well for you guys to learn his corner gamma charge combos. In particular, being able to recognize and continue combos after an :h:~:l: Gamma charge on an airborne opponent, in the cases when you are near corner, instead of doing :h:~:l: Gamma charge xx Gamma crush, you can do :h:~:h: or :h:~:m: AA Gamma charge and do a long ass combo to kill the guy instead.
After an air throw you can L gamma wave into gamma crush.
