So I’ve been very interested in playing around with hugo/zangief while I get accustomed to using a stick (Cammy would be my “main” but I’m new to fighting games and stick in general) and I bought the players guide just to have moves for each character next to me. While doing trials I get to his ultra 1 and I can NOT get it for the life of me. In the guide it says right and around twice. As much as I tried it would just jump Hugo back. I just looked it up while at work and it is showing that it is BACK and circle around twice… I haven’t been home to try it yet but is that the correct motion for it?
It’s a 720, meaning two consecutive 360s. You can jump, perform it during the jump and hit the buttons to activate when you land. Or you can whiff a move and perform the 720 during that and hit PPP after the move finishes animating.
You can also do standing 720s if you’re super cool.
You can also do the 720 motion while dashing. Jumping is the easiest, and while dashing is the most useful and not as hard to pull off while standing.

Full-circle MotionsEdit
Arcade Stick 360
Full-circle (or 360-degree) motions are rare in special attack inputs, and can be performed clockwise or counterclockwise. Characters that use grapple moves - such as E. Honda and T. Hawk - have inputs that use many half-circle and full-circle motions in attack inputs. They are comparatively rare when compared to the above motions, which can be attributed to its relative difficulty.
Full-circle motions can be performed during jumps in order to “mask” them; while this makes the corresponding move easier to pull off, it can come at the cost of ‘telegraphing’ the move. In Super Street Fighter IV, grapplers can also make use of Focus Attacks to buffer the move, executing the motion while dashing out of either a complete or incomplete Focus Attack.
In addition to the 360-degree spin, several throw-based Super and Ultra Combos make use of two full-circle motions, often referred to as a 720-degree motion. These are much harder to execute in general, and, barring high skill, most always require the user to jump into the attack or use a move to keep the user earthbound. Other ways to pull off a 720-degree motion is after a dash or as a reversal.
Direction doesn’t matter, if you can spin cleaner one way vs the other you can do that dirrection from either side.
its also worth noting that for a single 360 you only actually need to input a 270 starting with forward or back and ending at up - not sure if there is a similar way of ‘cheating’ the 720 motion though?
I’m pretty sure you can do a 630 (?)
Couldn’t get the forums to load up on my phone earlier for some reason… but was playing around with it again earlier and still can’t do it, either way. I can do the other moves with the same stick motions but I can’t get it. I can’t just be next to them and do it or does it have to be in the air or while dashing?
The input is a 720, or two circles. So if you stand next to them and do two slow circles, you will obviously jump. The idea is to buffer the 720 inside of another move to avoid this.
I think you should pick another character.
If you are playing hugo you should ignore ultra 1 and use ultra 2
