How do you guys like to set up the ultra throw? Do you just do it? It’s pretty much the only throw I can’t land out of them.

Also, I’ve been having a lot of success with st. lk xx lk meat squahser

i like to do ex ultra throw after hitting st.hp close to them. a lot of people tend to freeze up after they get hit by that. i also like to do clap fadc forward ultra throw. neither are complete solid but they work for now.

I swear something is messed up with hugos K specials

So the super armor cancels are way more versatile than just absorbing jump-ins. That’s pretty awesome, I’ll have to try to get these down myself tomorrow.

The armor cancel tech sounds way too good. I’m sure it will take a lot of practice to do consistently. Gettin in dat lab tonight!

CH Cr.Lk xx Lp Clap, Lp xx L Lariat = 253 Damage, 308 Stun
CH Cr.Lk xx Ex Clap, Lp Clap, Lp xx Lariat = 352 Damage, 462 Stun
Both build around 60% meter.

Won’t lie, I’m came in thinking this character was horrible but he’s kind of fun and scary when you get him rolling and making good reads.

that at cr lp xx L clap are my go to footsies when I’m fishing for counter hit for a clap.

how are you guys getting a raw HP clap to connect? i rarely get that opportunity. I tried the suggestion in the thread of doing fierce clap immediately after 360 P and thats’ a pretty nice meaty setup but doesn’t really open up other options. I like lariat, dash forward neutral splash into s LK into grab, or into knee hop thing (down down mk) into whatever hit confirm (tick grab or on hit, cr L xx LP Lariat)

what exacty is the armor cancel input?

Edit: In all my attempts tonight, I’ve never gotten the ultra throw off of the plink as I describe below. I dont know if my translation is incorrect or if it was just removed from the game, or if my execution is just terrible.


for those trying to do the Kara Ultra Throw, the command is hcb+LP~LK. Basically cancelling the frames of the clap into the grab. you are plinking the LK.

I got it from this video from Storm Kubo. Note the safe jumps at end of video.

EDIT: After testing, I’m no longer sure if its EX lariat or something like Focus attack or st HP
Here is the 3rd strike thread with a first post that has a lot of good setups.

not all of these translate over to SF 4. for instance, s MP > cr MK is not good anymore lol.

But there are some good options that still exist. mostly the tick setups. of course you can change the parry setups into ex lariat setups ( i think.,.) so there is a lot to work with.

Oh snap, I thought the ultra throw setups for this vid wouldn’t work because of the range nerf. Guess it would help if I could understand the writing xD So they are actually showing off the kara ultra grab… Thanks for posting that.

Anyone else noticing fireballs literally passing right through him when he’s crouching

happens with juris mk and sakuras fierce so far

Tested Ex Lariat Fadc a tiny bit.
Ex Lariat Fadc Dash = Don’t do either of them. They’re both at least over -8 or worse.
Just regular Ex Lariat I believe is -6
Guess it’s really only for combos.

Ok bought the frame data app,

moonsault is HP 1.4, MP 1.5, LP 1.65 and ex 1.5
UT is 1.355 and EX is 1.685
MS is 2.310 with ex being 2.270 (wtf at that range oO) this would explain why folks get caught by it also why the armor seemingly fails as the armor only last until he gets close enough to grab

Are we sure that ex lariat is the way to do those armor cancel “glitches” at 1:40 or so of this video?

Because if its Ex lariat, wouldn’t we see 1 meter being spent? Isn’t this like Focus attack cancelled into their respective moves instead?

I tried for a while to emulate this with ex lariat but I could not get the cancel into ultra. I assume that this is either focus attack or st HP cancelled into ultra.

Also, would you guys be ok with me posting the frame data from the app as photos in a new thread? I bought the guide, and so did many others, but I actually like having all the info on one page ---- on the guide its all in different sections.

I was practicing Hugo yesterday :

  • crLPx2 in guard > d,dmk overhead > stLP > super works like a charm
  • clap in the corner is so goood
  • ex backbreaker didn’t trade at all but all other versions must be done at the good moment for those not to trade
  • stHP > best anti air so far
  • crHK once > dash > crHK again > works !
  • ex lariat is good against fireball characters
  • juri / sagat / poison are the worst MU IMHO

So much fun ^^

Like to know how you guys are dealing with the gouken matchup. Shit seems hella impossible. I say more than sim

It is ex lariat, an easy way to test it is to record a ryu dummy doing the sweep into jp.hk safejump. Resume control of hugo and then do wakeup qcf+KKK and then immediately another qcf+KKK. Its an easy way to do an armor cancel ultra 2.

In regards to your point about meter being spent, armor cancels with other characters dont actually use a bar because most armored ex specials gain armor a few frames BEFORE they drain the 1 bar. It’s why you can do things like armor cancel super with balrog.
