its hilarious when you DO land EX lariat most of the team the opponent panics andd tries to jump away from it only to get put into an airjuggle then combo ex backbreaker
he has a bunch of weird things that keep him from being tournament viable like his super not being an armor breaker so you cant punish focus attacks and whats the point of his feint? he still recovers slow from it,you might as well let it rip for the free chip
To taunt ur opponent when u body them and have super meter to do so lol
I think people are
The point of the feint is if you miss them. Also he had it in 3S.
Unfortunately I do agree with you… I hope some player will step up and prove us wrong though! People thought Dudley was low tier as well.
You can punish them with dash up spd… That’s what I’ve been doing. EX Lariat should work as well, and if they backdash you get a juggle state I believe.
What I have the most trouble with at the moment, is getting people the fuck off me. Can’t counterpoke, get frametrapped for days. I can gamble an EX spd/backbreaker but that’s not something that works in the long run. And teching grabs is hell with his 6frame cr. lk. Bad habits of mashing cr. tech Ken are starting to show, lol.
yea i have the same problem where i can get someone off me unless i gamble and go for a grab…he had the same problem in cross tekken…i mean sometimes i do ex back breaker just to get my ass out of there and reset to neutral.
Sometimes that’s just what you have to do. You get people to respect you enough to where they always back off or neutral jump and you either get space or knock them out of the air.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people try to neutral jump/ back jump away because of ex spd working on them. I’m also starting to just stand tech because if I’m going to get counter hit I want at least something that will work faster.
Pretty sure his cr.lk is 5 frames, it combos after dd+mk.
As Hugo it’s simply a fact of life that you’re going to have to block a lot, wait for an opening and go from there. I like to use st.hp when I identify a gap in the rhythm of their pressure where they try to go for sweep/low forward/dive kick etc.
Frame data states it’s 6 frames. dd+mk has a 10 active frames, so if it hits on any other frame than the first active frame, it’s possible to combo cr.lk after dd+mk
I’ve been using EX lariat as a far anti air recently. It has armour of course but it’s especially good because of the bb combo straight afterwards.
My first offline tournament with Hugo did not go well, First match a Dee Jay, loosers match a Chun-Li. In a proper downer with the character as a patient potato I am not which may not be the best with Hugo.
Don’t be too down. You got 2 horrible matches back to back
Here is one of my recent matches against a typical Sagat…
I’m going to start uploading more as I’m getting my Hugo better. By the way, I feel Ultra1 is the best pick. Crazy damage, catches a lot of ppl. Standard combos with ultra throw and aa bb are enough damage without adding a highly scaled U2. Although U2 is still great against Blanka, maybe bison.
lol
yes yes where everything Hugo does can get stopped by a DP. U can’t try any close up mix ups when the other player JUST DOES IT. Also that continuos body splash cross up doesn’t work against higher ranked and better players.(I’ve tried lol) it only works as a random surprise. They can anti air it if they know it is coming. I need to start using U1.
I see I am not the only one that doesn’t expect players to do a move then jump up quickly over and over. I never think of doing the back breaker in time lol.
I do the cross up splash combo until they block it all, usually they try and wake-up reversal which usually doesn’t work out and they get hit. Also after the splash , c.lk, they usually expect the throw and try and do something which generally gets stuffed by lariat. Also after a blocked lariat (including ex lariat), I usually spam 360 which means they need to do a quick punish or get thrown.
Once they block the splash combo, I start mixing it up more, but until then … if its working, keep doing it.
360 works so well actually in general, which means U1 also. It’s amazing how many ppl still attempt block strings in your face. Also splash into s.MP, then U1/360 is great.
I have the same issue. Might be because I have never played a grappler before, so I don’t really look for people to jump back or neutral jump a lot. I do feel it’s one of the key aspects of mastering Hugo, to punish every jumpback attempt whenever possible. When you scare that option out of their brains, you can get nasty with dem Ultra Throws and 360’s/720’s.
Less complaining, more patience. Were talking bout potatoes here not french fries.
Going up close and just blocking is part of Hugo’s mixup game too. If you block a DP and punish it they’ll reconsider doing it again.
Body splash does beat DPs if you do it deep enough. You don’t have enough time to do if after a Moonsault Press, but you do have enough time to do it after a lariat as was demonstrated in the video.
Hugo does have safe jump set-ups if you guys really want pressure instead of doing mp/hp clap mix-up (because I guess a lot of people only just go for Hp clap @_@)
Tbh I like blocking a lot of reversals because I get more from punishes then you get from jump ins.
Another bad matchup against Chunli that I just about won…

I won’t clog this thread with embeds, so click through if you wanna watch it.
I realise I missed some punishes but the frustration of being zoned out really messes with your head. I feel I’m improving though and wanna break into top 50 Hugo players (points wise).
