Killer Instinct.
Question: How many games can the tournament scene support at a given time?
It’s definitely not going to be a new Killer Instinct, unless it’s just an Xbox Live port with 16:9 format support and netplay. Microsoft has no-one who would be able to develop it, seeing as Rare is a giant bottle of fail right now and there aren’t exactly a lot of Western developers on call who have fighting game experience.
My best guess is either Darkstalkers or Guilty Gear.
It’s going to be the next Smash game.
Yes Smash isn’t a fighting game, but you think Play Magazine would make that distinction?
Plus there have been rumors going around of a new Smash.
Hoping for Darkstalkers, either that or console ports of VF5FS or KoFXIII.

Could be GG. Remember that Arc System works no longer owns the rights to the GG franchise. In other words, they have absolutely zero say over who makes it and when.
But I think its most likely to be KI. I cant think of any other fighting game as popular. I mean, Street Fighter, MK and Tekken would be what I would call the big 3, so next in fame is probably KI.
I would like it to be Dark Stalkers, but that was never very popular.

My money is also on Smash.
N has that new console coming up, and it wouldn’t be an N console without a Smash game to go with it.
Sakurai has expressed disinterest in working on a new Smash game.
Thank God, it’s his fault Brawl moved more in the part game direction.
KI was really only big in the states from as far as I can tell. I doubt that’s it, and if Microsoft is deadset on making it with Kinect, I hope it’s not it.
Bloody Roar isn’t coming back. Darkstalkers wasn’t big enough to call it a huge franchise. DOA is being released on 3DS, so you can’t call that a comeback.
Virtua Fighter is in the opposite boat as KI, as it’s not at all popular in the states.
KOF is still churning out, and is in a similar boat as VF, until you go south of the border.
My only guesses I can surmise are:
CVS3
Smash (Don’t even say it)
I might still include Killer Instinct and VF, just to be safe, but I doubt either.
Guilty Gear (Especially with the “eventually” being posted by Ishiwatari lately)

Give us a console version of V5FS first.

I’m also thinking Smash for Nintendo’s new console. There has been a lot of rumors about that lately, so it might be true after all.
