So, I got this HRAP2 (not SA) and it worked great for a couple hours, then the UP signal got stock. Here’s what I’ve done so far; I started with a continuity test to all points, including all the way to the Hori chip, it all tested fine. Proceeded to replace the joystick harness, just in case the soldered points to the PCB needed to be reflowed. Replaced the joystick and replaced the PS2 cable, the one that it came with had frayed up a bit by the base, could that have started the problem sending a short and fried the chip somehow?
Edit: I also tested for continuity to the ground, making sure there wasn’t a bridge of any sort between up and ground over the PCB. This leads me to believe it has to be the chip.
In the meantime, I’ve placed a HRAP3 turbo panel in there, so it’s a PS3 stick for the time being. Not thrilled about the black turbo panel, I do love the PS3/PC and somewhat PS4 functionality though. I’ve been thinking of painting it, maybe vinyl die? I know results can be rough, but I can give it a shot and always reverse it if I’m not satisfied with the results.
Taking things a bit further, I’ve been pondering about modding the Turbo panel, I can install 10mm vandal buttons in there and a slide switch, making it perfectly functional if I were to install a multiconsole PCB of any kind.
3D printing is also a possibility, at least just a blank panel that you can drill at your discretion would be good. Has this been done before? So many HRAPs out there, hopefully someone has ventured. I’ve done some searching to no avail and I know nothing about 3D printing.
I really love this stick, I’d like to come up with a solution for the PS2 turbo panel, maybe someone out there has a spare PS2 PCB that they’d like to share or trade?
Thanks for reading.
