Hmm is that the only difference though? As in, if I wanted to swap buttons I could still use the HRAP 2 guides for that??
Thanks for the quick reply btw =]

The buttons are the same as the other HRAPs.
The HRAP1b and the HRAP3 are not compatible with S-shaped mounting plates which means that the Jap sticks with short shafts meant to be mounted right below the control panel with no gap will not fit. The ones with longer shafts that do not use an S-shaped mounting plate for added height will fit.
Short Japanese joysticks: Seimitsu LS-32, LS-33, LS-40, and some variants of the Sanwa JLW. The LS-33 will not fit in any HRAP as there is no S-shaped mounting plate made for the LS-33, 55, and 56 series of joysticks. None of these sticks will fit in the HRAP1b and HRAP3.
Long Japanese joysticks: Seimitsu LS-55, LS-56, Sanwa JLF, and some variants of the Sanwa JLW. All of these sticks, except for the JLW variants, will fit in any HRAP model.
If you want a tighter stick than the Sanwa JLF in your HRAP3, I recommend the Seimitsu LS-56-01. The LS-56 is Seimitsu’s most JLF-like joystick except that it has a shorter engage, throw, stiffer spring, and much better octagonal gate. The only real flaw is that the pivot grinds slightly compared to the JLF but it comes prelubricated so it shouldn’t a problem. The LS-55 is just a taller version of the LS-33 with a slightly stiffer spring. What works for small sticks doesn’t necessarily work for big ones though and the LS-55 has a much larger throw than any other Japanese joystick. The 01 suffix simply indicates that the stick uses a pcb board with a JLF cable compatible 5-pin connector.
If you want a stiffer resistance, just add (not replace with) an LS-32 spring
Thanks a ton on all this useful information. Same goes to everyone who replied to my question.
In case anyone’s curious as to what kind of modding I was looking to do on the HRAP 3 (Keep in mind, my first mod so sorry about the redundant/silly questions), all I want to do is:
Swap out the Hori generic buttons with Sanwa OBSF-30 (I prefer the nice translucent look of some of the Seimitsu buttons, but I hear Sanwa buttons are better for fighters, if you’re ignoring the “personal preference” reply
Switch the BALL TOP (not the whole stick) to a Seimitsu LB-39 ball top. I also read that it was compatible with the JLF series. Correct me if I’m wrong but the HRAP 3 has a JLF-TP-8Y-SK, as in it’s compatible, correct? I don’t plan on swapping out the entire stick since the JLF series seems great to me, though feel free to point out if any other stick is [by fact] better than the JLF. If it’s personal pref, then I’ll stick with the JLF-TP-8Y-SK stock.
(Not necessary, but I’d like to do this if I can) Swap out the Start + Select buttons for the old fashioned P1 and P2 logo buttons I just like the look. Anyways the two I found on lizardlick are Happ player imprint and Yenox player imprint—will either fit the St + Sel buttons in the HRAP 3, and installation the same as the rest of the buttons??
Again, thank you very much for your replies in advance. I hope I’m not plaguing these threads with tired questions.
Thanks!
Ok, few questions
What type of stick does the HRAP2 use? How hard is it to change it, and is it possible to fit a Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y in there?
I plan to buy 6 Sanwa-OBSF-30s. Will they just snap in? Thanks

Your questions have all been answered before. If you have anymore doubts, check my guide as well (which is also in the essential thread)
thank you for this guide. it was easy than i thought
Hi, I’m new to the forums and I’d like some clarification on the above quote. To my understanding after reading the quote and doing a ton of searches, the only Semitsu sticks that would fit in a Hrap3 are long sticks that do not have the S-shaped plate and short sticks that do. Is this correct? If so, does that the S-shaped plate on the LS-32-01 will fit? I’d appreciate if someone could tell me how to differentiate the short sticks vs. long sticks and which exact Seimitsu sticks will fit. Thanks in advance.
LS-32-01 will not mount into HRAP 3 because its Mounting Bracket does not support the Seimitsu SS Mounting Plate.
Only Seimitsu Mounting Plate work is RE Mounting Plate and MS Mounting Plate and VF Mounting Plate.
RE Mounting Plate comes from LS-32 and LS-40(-01).
MS Mounting Plate comes from LS-33 and LS-55(-01).
VF Mounting Plate comes from LS-56(-01).
To mount LS-32-01, you would need to replace default SS Mounting Plate with RE Mounting Plate.
But in doing so, the Shaft Height would be super short.

Seimitsu SS Mounting Plate and non-Universal Mounting Bracket.
Using Seimitsu RE Mounting Plate works.

Seimitsu RE Mounting Plate and non-Universal Mounting Bracket.

Installed Seimitsu LS-32-01 with RE Mounting Plate; unmodified.
But Joystick will be really short, that is why have to modify the Base.

That is why use Seimitsu LS-32-01 with the default SS Mounting Plate.
It gives the 5mm needed.
But the Seimitsu SS Mounting Plate not fit.
If use the Seimitsu RE Mounting Plate, the Shaft will be really short.

You can get a longer Shaft if you want.

You can get a Shaft Extender if you want.

Everything above applies to LS-40-01 also.
LS-33, there does not exist a PCB model.
Unless you take PCB from LS-55-01 or LS-56-01.
Funny information; LS-55-01 and LS-56-01 PCB says “LS-33” on it.
Even if get PCB for LS-33, Shaft be short.
LS-55-01 and LS-56-01 work.
Default Mounting Plates work.
Thanks a lot of the detailed info! BTW does the Octagonal Gate only pertain to Sanwa JLF? Thanks again.
Sanwa GT-Y, yes.
Only for JLF.
There is Seimitsu Octagon for LS-56(-01).
Fits LS-55(-01) and LS-33 also.
Thanks. I want to get a Seimitsu and the octagonal gate, so I guess I’ll go for a LS-55-01 or a LS-56-01. To my knowledge there’s really no big difference between the two, is this correct? Also in the description for the LS-55-01 in AkihabaraShop, it says “a square gate that can be set to eight-, four- or two-way operation”. Does this mean if I get the LS-55-01, I won’t have to get a octagonal gate? Thanks.
Edit: I just read the difference between eight-, four- or two-way operation and restriction gates. It’s so obvious now, I feel stupid for thinking they were the same.
I’m not sure of the differences between the LS-55 and LS-56, but I would definitely recommend the LS-56 based on my personal experience. As far as that description, no, you’d still have to get an octagonal gate. A lot of people here mistakenly refer to square gates as “4-way” and octagonal as “8-way” and that is technically incorrect. Both square and octagonal gates are 8-way as they both can move in 8 directions (up-left, up, up-right, left, right, down-left, down, down-right). A square gate can be rotated and used for 4-way operation (only up, down, left, and right, which is really only useful for games like Pac-Man) and depending on the stick, a secondary gate can be added for 2-way (wither up/down or left/right only) operation, mostly for games like Galaga.
IF you have spare cash and really want to get an HRAP 2 for the Universal Mount and possibly the PS2-ready PCB, look on e-Bay.
There have been any number of people selling HRAP 2’s and they’ve been going for fairly cheap, too…
These sticks are way, way easier to find than the HRAP 2 SA.
And for the millionth time, nobody can have my HRAP 2 SA! LOL
Thanks for the guide. My Seimitsu LS-32 came in tonight and installing was a cinch. I ended up rotating the PCB in the end because it allowed me to get the bracket screws in easier.
The 32 is definitely butter for 2D fighters. I’ll need more seat time to draw an opinion on shmups. [Saturn] Guardian Heroes is insane with it.
