So I went out for a cig last night after playing some BB, and everything was working perfectly. When I get back the right direction on the joystick stopped working entirely out of nowhere and I can’t for the life of me figure out whats wrong. I checked the wiring, everything seems to be hooked up properly I didn’t see any loose wires or anything, but I can’t get it to work again. I’m not an expert on sticks in any way and I could really use some advice from somebody with more know how. I’m just wondering if theres anything I can do to fix it, or if I’m going to have to buy a replacement stick which is an option I’m really not too keen on seeings as how its a big hassle to put a new one in the EX. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
You probably wouldn’t need to buy a brand new stick man, it could just be a faulty microswitch. If that’s the case, then all you would have to do is buy some quick disconnects and 1 microswitch then cut the wire from the faulty microswitch and apply a quick disconnect then install the new microswitch. Totally solderless job.
I think you’re right since that microswitch is unresponsive no matter how much I play with the wiring to it, the button just won’t take the input. It just seems really odd to me the suddenness of it failing, there were never any times before where it was unresponsive in any way. Thanks alot though, I wasn’t aware you could simply buy the microswitches themselves. Was kinda hoping there was a faster fix =/ guess I’ll have to take a break from fighting games for a bit.
One more question then before I go ahead and do anything. I can’t seem to find the MS-Y-3 microswitches anywhere at all, so are the MS-0-3R switches from AkihabaraShop as good or at least fairly comparable? And I’m looking for .187" quick disconnect terminals, right? But man…those seem way more expensive than I would expect something like that to be, unless what they’re selling at Akihabara is a bunch of them as opposed to singles, however I don’t see anything that would confirm that is the case.
AkihabaraShop.jp not sell MS-Y-3 anymore.
I think I got the last ones from TheRealNeoGeo.
Sanwa doesn’t even list MS-Y-3 on their website anymore.
I don’t know about their new Catalog, but I’ll take look in there.
There is difference between MS-Y-3 and MS-O-3.
MS-Y-3 were sold for JLF-TM-8, MS-O-3 sell for Illuminated Buttons.
I see MS-O-3R on website, but I don’t know what the specifications are.
But those Microswitches, they are for Illuminated Buttons also.
There is a difference in the Operating Force.
MS-Y-3 1.96 N {200gf} while MS-O-3 has 0.98 N {100gf}.
I still don’t know what the MS-O-3R are.
But AkihabaraShop.jp is using same image as MS-Y-3.
Maybe MS-Y-3 and MS-O-3R are the same, just different name?
I don’t know.
As for the AT-187, they come in packs of one hundred pieces.
So basically if I’m going to fix the microswitch I’m going to end up needing to replace all 4 microswitches right away, since it really wouldn’t pan out so well to have a different operating force on one of the directions than the other three, assuming the MS-O-3R is similar to the regular MS-O-3 switches as opposed to the MS-Ys. And am I understanding right that the MS-O-3s take fully half the force to activate the switch? If so wouldn’t that change the feel of the stick significantly?
