I hope you arenā€™t trying to force it on her. Anyway, if she wants to learn then give her a list of 5 character to choose from who arenā€™t hard to learn. (and that you in fact know how to play) It may be better to start her off with an offensive character like Rufus so thatā€™s sheā€™s exposed to the core of SF gameplay, which is really the funnest part - reading your opponent. Try to make her into a mix up machine and tell her to try to predict how the opponent is going to react and to defy those expectations.

Iā€™ve tried teaching my 5 year old nieces and nephews street fighter, and Iā€™ve only really gotten as far as teaching them fireballs before theyā€™re bored. Defensive character might seem boring at first glance, thatā€™s why Iā€™m suggesting trying offense first. Either way you learn the mechanics of blocking and the importance of predicting your opponent. However, I imagine the offensive character is more dynamic and exciting.

Also, little known secret, it can actually be a lot more mindless to be an offensive character - especially in certain fighting games. When a character has a really strong offense and you just do a long block string, or infinite combo, then you might as well be in training mode during that time. On the other hand, the other person has to be on their guard watching for holes in the blockstring or possible reset attempts, all the while preparing for their next move.

The man asked a legit question. My girlfriend asked me to teach her because she said it looks like fun. Iā€™d say go around the character select screen and give a brief explanation on the characters, then have her choose one and go into training mode to mess around while you control player 2.
