How well recieved was CvS1?

Cool, I’ll try to DL them, tho if someone can up them to Youtube or Rapidshare, that’d be great, MU has been ass in the past few months.

Which is kinda sad. Pro’s major downfall was just timing. With CvS2 on the horizon, nobody really wanted to dedicate the time to an updated CvS1. When CvS2 hit the scene, 1 was forgotten about entirely, including Pro.

3S was sort of dead in the water too, but benefitted from a major revival after the infamous Daigo comeback. I was thinking, if there are enough people who still like and are willing to play CvS1/Pro, it could be brought back. Unfortunately, the game only really came out on, what, PS1 and DC? Even if we wanted to play, how would we?

If people were willing to play Pro, I would pick it up. If you told me someone was going to have a CvS1 tourney somewhere, I’d enter and start polishing up my rusty skills.

The only decent conversion of CVSpro is DC, Jap only. Marvel is mostly played on DC so I guess we’d play it the same way.

no pro please. If I were to play cvs 1 I’d only play original. Pro is not my thing. And it’s not like the two extra characters really mater.

yeah but the fact that Nak isn’t a complete whore does matter.

I guess… They changed the juggle system as well. I think that messes up much of the cast. I only played a bit of pro, but I still prefer cvs 1 regular to pro. Of course I never played in a cvs 1 tourney, just at an arcade for about two years, I just don’t think nerfing nak a bit makes me feel that pro is the better choice.

just a quick question:

does ken have his shoryureppa juggle in CvS pro?

no, he doesn’t.

yes he does. i was playing it a few days ago and the shoryueppa juggle is still in pro

The only thing I didn’t like was the four button system. I remember people thinking that Capcom was going to start making all fighting games 4 buttons, since Marvel is practically 4 buttons if you don’t count assists. At the time, I liked playing CVS, but I was learning Marvel 2 after just learning how to play Marvel 1 and I had never played any SNK fighters, so I didn’t really know what to expect, but as far as I remember it was pretty decently received.

i just realized that i dig this game over others like the alpha series is due to the “depth” of an attack as it came in contact with your opponent. i really can’t think of another term to use besides depth because that is really how it felt in cvs1… on impact a hit felt “deeper” than i remember it on any other game(not like a “deep” crossup or anything of the like). an obvious example of this that might make what i’m saying a bit easier to understand is how sweep xx shin shoryuken felt. in the alpha series hits felt they really werent causing that great of an impacting sensation, and in 3s the attacks feel like the character’s limbs are covered in mud or something. i suppose what i’m trying to say is that i prefer capcom’s engine in regard to attack mechanics on this title… it also seemed like there was much less pushback in this game.

Ok, here is my first, last, and only word on CVS1 vs. CVS2

I talked with Nelson about this, and we both agree.

CVS2 is simply a deeper, more involved, more complicated game, which simply bashes CVS1 in terms of strict gameplay, WITH ONE MAJOR FRICKIN EXCEPTION --> Roll Cancels.

CVS2 with roll cancels is gay, it makes a retard with no footsies into a half-decent killer who thinks their bad ass. Hence, as footsies become downgraded by roll-cancels, the game becomes more and more gay.
–>CVS2 on XBox = best form of CVS ever.

However, when roll cancels are in the picture, CVS1 becomes a significantly better and more balanced game. Even taking into account that Nak was probably the best character, if you look at B5, there wasn’t a nak player in the top 3, which means that footsies and player skill are ultimately what dominated CVS1. Its lack of glaring, abusable bugs (blankas throw into level 3 being barely a mention, b/c you can break throws) increases its playabiliity over time.

CVS1 will teach you footsies in ways that most people will never get in cvs2 due to roll cancels. Yes, I realize characters like honda and sometimes terry don’t nneed footsies that much, but their different form of play isn’t abusable, it just increases game variety.

All in all, CVS1 was an excellent game, whose only major problem was that it could take a little bit too long to finish a tournament. In comapred to CVS2 with roll cancels, CVS1 is far superior, but CVS2 without roll cancels is overall better than both.

Nuff said.

And EX Balrog is my inner spirit channeled into reality - Big black man here to fuck some shit up!

Peace

Anyone know where can I find CVS1 videos?

This is actually true. This was my second competitive game and it taught me how to play footsies very well.

EX Balrog was just a beast overall.

I miss EX Balrog…

That’s the closest he’ll ever come back to his ST level of beastliness.

Agree!

This is all I have:

CvS1 was my first serious game, and I have fond memories of it.

Still… I think CvS2 is a far better game.

Roll Cancel does not kill footsies in anywhere near the way you try to make it seem. There are really only a handful of RC’s that are viable at mid range, and as long as you’re cognizant of those moves, the footsie game in CvS2 is just as strong as that of CvS1 (I used EX Vice/EX Beni/Kim in CvS1, so my game was almost all footsies).

The argument that RC kills footsies was really only viable in January of 2002. Back then, RC just seemed so fucking overpowered and really random. Now, we all know what all RC’s do. We all know which RC’s are safe at which ranges. We all know how to punish RC. As long as you know those things, the footsie game is intact.

I think P-Groove does more to kill footsies than RC does…

quoted for hella truth.
