How to use the TE stick?!

I always use the thumbstick on the 360 pad. I works perfectly. Did you ever try that?

You should be able to do hooligans on the thumbstick for sure. Even my friends can do it and they aren’t SF players at all. Just make sure you do it slowly and you should be fine.

I personally also grew up using a pad. Then started attending tournaments. People laughed and kept telling me I needed to use a stick. So I borrowed one for a while and hated it. But at the same time there were things I could do on a stick that I couldn’t on a pad.

Eventually I got my own, and I did nearly every trial. Sometimes would sit in training just doing moves until I never messed them up. Things as simple as fireballs and srk’s. And I’ve never looked back. Switching to a stick was the best thing I’ve ever done.

I just got my stick last weekend and it has to be the most frustrating thing I have ever done. I have spent atleast on hour a day in training just trying to get the ultra right.

What problems are you having? Have yuo managed to look through this thread at all the pots I’ve made offering advice on pad to joystick converts?

I’d be more than happy to help out with any specific issues you seem to be having. The joystick is worth learning, IMO. So I’d like to help so you don’t feel like you’ve wasted your money.

do you guys set your te stick to the d-pad or left analog? just wondering

I leave mine on d-pad, but it doesn’t really matter…at all I don’t believe.

do you think if you started playing on the 360 analog thumb stick that it might make more sense to switch? Because my te is set to default right now

Yeah, PapaRhino’s right - there’s absolutely no difference in functionality in fighting games if you use LS or DP. The option’s simply there so you can use the TE in games that don’t have d-pad support or have movement mapped to the right analog stick.

Herby Drinks: What about the double QCF motion is throwing you off? Do you feel like you’re being inaccurate? Or does it feel like you’re slower on the joystick than on a pad?

First tip for anyone having trouble with rolling motions on a joystick with a square gate - do not ride the gate, meaning don’t push the stick all the way out to the edge. Instead, try doing smaller, less exaggerated motions. With Japanese parts, you can use minimal movement to get your inputs out.

ty exmachina… I still like to blame my shortcomings on the stick though, it makes me feel better lol.

I was at work so I kinda skimmed through the pages so I missed alot of it but just went back through and took a look and there is alot of good advice on this thread. I have had the stick for 5 days now and from what I get from this thread is my biggist challange will be to use a lighter touch with this stick. I have been running it agaisnt the side.

My montion is all off, I always seem to go to high and jump or not high enough and do a SA. Hopefully with alot of practice and a light touch ill get it right.

My wife just got me a TE stick because she knows how much I love fighting games. I’ve been playing with a 360 Thumb Stick that is half gone. (Literally I’ve rubbed the thing to a nub) She isn’t going to let me use it till X-mas but she let me test it out to make sure everything worked. I’m not sure why but I felt more comfortable with this thing. I was able to pull out things I wasn’t able to do before in a matter of 15-mins of use. But I think my problem laid in the buttons and not the stick itself.

On a controller I was limited to what buttons I could use. The LB and LT were utterly use less to me as my left hand didn’t wanna control the thumb stick and press a button at the same time with that hand. Limiting me to 6 buttons of use…Meaning I would need to sacrifice two of these :hp:, :hk:, :3p: or :3k: based on the character I was playing at the time. It’s not as bad as the limitation as I had on SF II’: SCE (Sega Genesis with a 3 Button Controller). Anyhow the now available 8-button format ,using a keyboard approach, allows me to access all the moves and not limit me to using one hand for specific moves. So my suggestion is to set up your buttons where you feel comfortable instead of trying to place your hand in the right spot.

Not bad at all! I went to seattle and played with some friends and worked hard on not going easy on the stick and it made a ton of diferance. Thanks again for all the good advice! Now I just need to work on beatin guile and balrog and ill be set.

Wow, that’s awesome to hear, Herby. Keep at it! And if there’s anything else that hasn’t been answered, feel free to ask away. I’m the resident self-designated joystick professor here on the Cammy Forums. Hahaha. I will do whatever I can to help people feel like they haven’t wasted their money on a nice TE stick 'cause those things are definitely worth it.

Should we call you professor chen or professor salty?

Something I’ve noticed, my execution is horrible on the new TE round 2 sticks. You guys think because it’s new or…? I do TKCS and get Cannon Spike 1/3 times :frowning:

Oh, Professor Salty, 100%. Hahaha. You think I get salty about Cammy. You should have seen me the last time I played Catan with ShinJN and mrwizard. After that night, Wiz sent me this:

If Cammy wasn’t so damn sexy, I’d change my avatar to that.
