Hi! I come from way up north from the state of Alaska, and our fighting game scene isn’t as big as the ones I’ve read about on the forums. Reading about local tournaments in the states has really hyped me up, and I want to start running similar ones here in the state of Alaska. Question is:
How do I run a ranking battle?
I am not sure how people get points based on their wins/losses and how they are moved up in rank. Is there a place on instructions on how to run a basic one? I would like to get Alaska on the map for fighting games, and I think this may be a good way to start. Games that are big here are:
Smash Bros. Melee
Smash Bros. Brawl
Tekken DR
If anyone has any suggestions please lemme know.
Thanks!
Ranking battles are just a series of tournaments with points assigned to the winners, i’d focus on running the tournaments smoothly first, getting time estimates, equipment, brackets, etc…
once you have results you have a lot more time to deal with the ranking side of it
I’ve already been able to run a few tournaments smoothly. So with the winners do I assign ranking points there? Or are they given points when then win games at individual tournament matches?
How does it work at the end of a battle? You add up everyones points after a certain amount of games (which brings up how many games would a typical ranbat be), then determine a winner?
since you brought it up, that thread would be a better example if it showed the points assigned for this tournament, then the grand total, or does everyone use the same point assignments?
Okay, so lets say I run a few ranbats. Should there be a certain time when it should end? For example, add up all points after x ranbats, and determine a winner there? Do they reset? How long do you usually run yours for shoo?
