I have seen this happen to lots of opponents too, so its not such me.
Don’t be too close, if you land right next to someone take a step back before the shot, especially with small characters.

^What he said. For certain small characters like Zero, you’ll have a window after a palm, teleport to OTG him immediately as he’s still hitting the ground. If you wait too long, you’ll have to take a step back to OTG.
