Oooh… I didn’t know about this. I should check it out next time I have HRAP3 to mod!
I removed the trigger pots from my 09 pad without futher reading that this will probably cause problems later on down the road. So far I’ve not noticed any issues in windows CP. I’m not going to be using the triggers, so…
Should I resolder the pots back on and glue to nuetralize the triggers or do I have to use the hex invertor method? My guess is that either will work.
Also, does it matter if say the left yellow pot gets put on the right trigger, I think it does because in the picture of the back it shows the low to the inside of the pcb?
Thanks Upas for this tutorial. I didn’t bother with the trigger hack and I got my pcb wired up to my topfighter in one night
Putting the yellow trigger pots back on…8^P
Well…decided to solder the yellow pots back on. Wasn’t easy considering I bent off the 3 metal tabs from the pots themselves.

If anyone messes up like me and has to put the pots back on, make sure you flux->solder tin to both the wires and the yellow pots.
Sorry I didn’t respond to this earlier. I believe a 22k resistor between signal and high will neutralize the trigger, but I’m NOT positive. I’ll check with someone else and update my guide.
does it show anywhere how to make a daisy chain?
Not yet. I keep meaning to get to it, but never do…
i have everything up until the crimping and daisy chain done, so i mean if you ever get around to it, it would be quite helpful :tup:
Here’s a silly question, maybe I missed it. What’s the Hex INverter for?
The hex inverter takes the signals put out by the triggers and inverts them so that they’re recognized properly by the xbox/pc.
Thanks for the guide Upas, I should’ve found it months ago. took me damn near the whole day but i got the wiring done
Hey upas, just wanted to give a thanks for this tutorial once again. I did the trigger mod this time around… and it worked like a treat!!

wish i could give you rep points, but i can’t atm…

Could someone please point out the pinout of the USB cables to me? Which one is VCC, D-, D+ and ground (and what’s the fifth one? O_o).
Red = VCC
White = D-
Green = D+
Black = GND
For the controller, the first black is the shielded ground, which doesn’t matter.
So it’s GND, D+, D- then VCC from the picture you posted
Thanks!
That really helps me. Now I just need to figure out a few more things, and then I can get to work getting MC Cthulhu + Imp + 360 controller all set up.
this will be my first padhack, i’ve never made a daisy chain, would it be easier, albeit take longer, to just run a ground wire to each button instead of making a daisy chain and then connecting it to one ground signal?
It’s not really harder or easier either way IMO. Just preference. Both ways work.
I’m considering the daisy chain now, since it’ll be 12 less solder points, and i’ve never really soldered before. Could someone post a pic of a daisy chain so i get an idea of what to do. I use to have a Nuby anniversary stick and remember seeing it linked together…but it’s been a long time.
Are there any alternate solder points for the Start-button? I’ve totally messed the regular one up.
i made the pad hack and installed it into my joystick, daisy chained the ground to all the buttons, and when i turn on the xbox it recognized the joystick and i can move around the menu but whenever i hit the a button nothing happens.
it shows the a button on screen light up but it doesnt select anything
also when i move the pcb around it moves the menu around
just wondering if anyone knows whats wrong
