Primal Rage! That’s it! I tried looking up the name and all I found was bloody roar vids.
And arstal, I know. I’ve been told that about 6 times in the duration of this thread. I’m getting tired of hearing it, lol. The use of anthro characters was not my decision and it’s something I personally am powerless to change.
I am really thankful for all the useful feedback though. I’ve relayed all this stuff to the artist/designer and he’s considered a lot of it and is trying to find ways to put it to the practice without spoiling the vision.
Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about the perceptions, since you’ve already made up your mind. I think the game can sell regardless, if it’s done well enough. Look how popular Taokaka is.
I just think that you need to market this game towards the fandom demographics first- which can be done without hurting the gameplay, as it’s just marketing. Making it an actual good game will help sales in the long-term.
Or, if you want to make a cop out- you could say the characters are giant mechas, and design human pilots for them.
I think your furries need to be more sexy, dulling down their sexuality is just making the game more immature and silly. We both know in real life these furry buddies would be all kinds of sex, and your game should represent them in such an accurate way.
nothing’s wrong with furry porn frustratedsquirrel jeez you say it like it’s a bad thing
I think completely dulling their sexuality is a bad move too, but I don’t think they should be completely sexualized. to have some parts in common with humans is fine, like nice legs and breasts or something… but to just completely work their images over to be slutty?
I guess we just want it to be as respectable and accessable as possible. At it’s core, this a fighting game not a visual novel. Sure, we want to make the characters attractive and with a flair in presentation, but not in a sexual way.
and R_Panda, I operate under the philosophy that furry porn needs to stay with furries where nobody else can see it. If we’re going to release a game with anthropomorphic characters to a general audiance, we want to show that there’s no reason for people to feel uncomfortable playing these characters.
I guess another thing we could do is go down the BLoody Roar route and let humans transform into their animal mecha versions, but that is a bit overdone.
Interesting project squirrel, but like someone said before do for pc first and then port to XBLA when its very complete because making patches for live is expensive…maybe for pc make something online thats need a real serial for playing like an online mode?
Also make something simple but with some depth, also add extra modes like story, challenge, a good training mode, a very complete options (like turning of certain voices, volume control, control by pressing buttons…).
Oh and try to talk with ponder to use GGPO code for online play.
I know among the DD services, Impulse would probably be the cheapest for such a route, and the easiest to expand to other services, since Impulse allows 3rd-party serials to be used on Impulse if you gave them a list of the serials- and they’ve done MP protection with Sins after the Sins launch fiasco.
If it bombs, Stardock charges nothing to put the game on Impulse, so you won’t incur extra losses. The issue will be getting them to approve the game, but I know they’ve got at least one furry fan on staff there.
Nice trying to hide your little slip into hasty generalization?
Anyway…
That wasn’t an ad hominem, an ad hominem is basing a counter argument on an attack on someone’s character whereas he is just calling you a dumbass offhand.
saying furry = sexual is like saying woman = man pops a boner. it don’t work like that.
second, what you’re saying is a HUGE stretch. liking furries is cool and whatever, shit don’t mean you wanna suck their dick and wear fursuit costumes, wtf. you insane if you believe that. dunno if you’re trolling or what
Okay, then this is off hand, but all furries, frustratedsquirrel included, can go yiff in hell.
Nah, I’m pretty sure I’m right. Furry is a sexual thing. It’s pretty obvious when you think about it.
There’s a difference between merely liking Anthromorphic animals (TMNT, Sonic the Hedgehog, Swat Cats) and the level furries take it to. Trust me, I’ve been dealing with the type ever since I first found the internet. If someone describes themselves as a furry, 99% of the time it’s a sexual thing in one form or another.
Hence why I’m saying that this is not a furry game. What I’ve bolded is essentially exactly what we are trying to get here, and I was very clear about that from the first post onwards. This game is not specifically to be aimed at furries. The artist working on this is one of the 1% you just outlined who still draws it for artistic character design rather than sexual reasons, and is making a game about cool/cute sci-fi robot animal androids beating the fuck out of each other and looking stylish while doing it.
Let me explain this, and trust me, I know more about this than you: There are at least 4 different groups within the anthropomorphic fandom. Cartoon/anthro enthisiasts, furries, kemono fans and kemonomimi fans. The first group are the innocents who can just enjoy the pet-like appeal you get from animal characters but like to see it being put into a more serious and ‘cool’ light. Cat Shit One, for example, looks hilarious and badass despite being about cute rabbit people at war. You don’t have to be a furry to enjoy that sort of thing and it’s certainly not aimed at children.
Then you have furries. Some people use it as a blanket term but this is incorrect. Furries are generally the ones who take it to a lifestyle and/or fetish. NOT ALL FURRIES DO THIS. Some of them just like the art but are more involved than group 1.
Kemono fans are japanese furries. Unlike our furry culture, they actually have it down to a point where they are respected on the same level as anime fans rather than outright ridiculed. Kemono art is more of a pop culture thing and doesn’t carry sexual connotations by default.
Finally, you have Kemonomimis, who are cat-people like Felicia. This is even more of a fetish than kemono/furry in most cases, yet gets less bashing because the characters look more human. Gajinkas fall into this category too.
oh god, he even realizes what I’m trying to say but won’t acknowledge it…
look. if you’re seriously this stupid and wanna know why you’re sounding dumb PM me. otherwise this is pointless and you’re most likely trolling. either way, I don’t want to waste anymore space in this thread just talking about furry shit.
edit: holy shit I just realized me and frustrated squirrel bolded the exact same part of his post.
All furries are fetishists. If you describe yourself as a furry, you have a hardon for animals or art of animals. You don’t just like them. You love them.
Further more your game is pretty fucking furry. Combine that with your penchant for saying retarded things like… and I quote:
“Taokaka is one of the best character designs of all time.”
And you’d see I was trolling you. You always give amusing responses, and tend to be a good target. You paint it on yourself by posting furry art on the forums and naming yourself FrustratedSquirrel, so I imagine you’re a bit of a masochist, but goddamnit I’m high and need entertainment. But the fact that you constantly try to say your game/furry fandom isn’t sexualised or that you’re trying to avoid going into the direction seems almost contrary to your brilliant character designs of Young nubile android/robot bunnygirls seems very contradictory.
Just say that outloud. Young nubile android bunnygirls. Doesn’t even have to be loudly. There’s no way to even defend it.
You’re going one way and then saying you’re going the opposite, while condemning the very path you take. Goddamn, dude.
You see, your characters don’t actually have to be furry to be furry characters. They’re naked/nearly naked rabbit women styled like they’re on the cusp of womanhood. If I were to estimate, that probably makes up about 25% of Furcadia. Of course, I myself am not going to check, given that I don’t want to have to scoop my eyes out of my own skull with a serrated grapefruit sppon.
Just because they also happen to be ‘mecha’ doesn’t make the obvious intent behind the designs less obvious.
Yo raeli, I understand what you’re getting at but you need to go back to /b/ with that yiff in hell shit. What you and squirrel both seem to be missing are the correct usages/meanings of the term furry.
Furry art and anthro art are the same thing squirrel, the artists use both terms interchangably. It’s basically like saying someone’s black or a nigga. The latter can be seen as derogatory, but is also a term of endearment: stop whining about that.
Furry (the art style) and furries (the cats who fuck in the suits) are not, however the same. It’s like conflating anime/manga style with the guys who fuck body pillows of their waifus. Nice troll there though, didn’t catch it. Granted, I wasn’t actually paying attention to your posts but still. gb2/b/ though, seriously.
That being said: work like hell on a good, simple, classic take on new school mechanics. I’d actually use the guts of MvC2: the basics are quite simple, but the depth therin is profound. If the engine is fun, and you play to your strengths (uniqueness and kid-friendly aesthetic) you could create a new crowd of players out of nothing, kind of like Smash, only more likely to piss off SRK.
I’m going to disregard your post, just based on the fact that you think Yiff in Hell started in an awful place like /b/. Something about that just makes me a little sick.
There is a name though, for the clean side of the fandom that tries to avoid a certain label. Anthro is not technically correct but it’s better than saying ‘furitan.’
Yeah so what if I’m a furry. I still regret certain things about the fandom and am not proud of being one. Seeing someone try to create and sell a game with a unique anthropomorphic aesthetic and not pandering to that hole of a fandom is actually very cool and that’s why I wanted to get into it, to at least reassure myself that there is still some sensible people left who enjoy this art style for simple wholesome reasons.
Also, there are more male characters in the cast than female by a long shot, and none of the female characters are rabbits. So boo to you.
yeah, Yawn looks like a girl at first glance but he’s planned to have a deeper voice
Now can we get back to talking about actual useful stuff concerning possible features that might please players?
Anyway, the MVC2 engine? I guess that sounds pretty feasable. And another question. Why would it be more likely to piss off SRK? Smash Bros is not a normal fighter and the people who play it use different terminology. We’re making a proper fighting game that SRK people would find more familiar, and planning to listen to players and support them rather than giving fans the need to balance the game by changing the rules on their own (which is something most SRK goers dislike about the smash community)
