How to identify if your opponent is absolutely FEELING themselves in game

This is something that occurs more often as time goes by, in the SF4 community. Players start to get hyped, and do certain actions that are rather…unnecessary, or just extra. Don’t worry though, this is all IN-GAME and no harm is intended. Without further ado, here are some examples.

 • ‘The RF’ : RF will whiff a lot of buttons when he is FEELING himself. This usually happens, but is not limited to, multiple counter pokes and out poking. He will then start to whiff many jabs, press st.forward repeatedly in some situations, or other various buttons. Then, he will proceed to FEEL himself with a jump back fierce or button of choice. You can catch a glimpse of this here at approximately 2:02. I won’t post links for all of these, but this is just an example to show you it’s no joke.

 • ‘The AquaSilk’ : This can mean a lot of things, but it mainly consists of this duo. 1) Jab green hand under your jump into ultra. 2) Neutral jump headbutts in your grill. That is all I have to discuss on the matter.

 • ‘The Sanford Kelly’ : When using Sagat, repeatedly whiff roundhouses on mix up, during your ticks, or if you have stunned your opponent.

 • ‘The Eric Kim’ : During zoning, use Sagat’s low forward to scoot yourself a bit closer in spacing.

 • ‘The Steve H’ : In footsies, low fierce the shit out of your opponent and not get poked back by them. This is what he likes to call, “putting hands on that nigga.” If they decide to jump, to add insult to injury…opt to jump fierce them instead of uppercutting, even though you can.

 • ‘The LI Joe’ : Whenever you land a deep jump in roundhouse, raw ultra after it. Also, when you’re FEELING yourself with low shorts, pause for a minute them low forward into uppercut, 3rd strike style.

 • The Sabin: Skillfully dodging everything you try to hit him with by using air teleports, drills, slides, crouch techs, backdashes. After all that evasion, he brings players to a point of frustration where they start do the DUMB stuff like randomly jumping and focus-dashing ,jumping, and random EX Rush punches from full screen, again, DS style. What happens is Sabin just continually pops their shins with Sim’s standing fierce, then when he feels they’re going to jump he throws a perfectly timed and spaced yoga fire which they always land on. To add insult to injury, he mixes you up with a teleport / yoga fire setup into super and at that point you’re chances of winning just go to shit.

 • The Zohta: Dashes under your jumps and catches you with Zangief’s 720. He also spaces Zangief’s dash so that he dashes close enough to you to think that you can punish the recovery of his dash but he’s actually churning that butter during the dash and as soon as he sees the limb come out he just 720’s that shit. Very demoralizing.

 • The Sanford: Mashes on all the buttons marvel style when he hits you with a multi hitting Ultra (for example the ender on Ken’s ultra and Chun’s Ultra). This doesn’t really serve a purpose but it comes from Marvel. Also, psychologically when Sanford is mashing buttons next to you or pressing the buttons really hard and loud, you KNOW that he’s feelin himself so it makes you afraid to go in and shift the momentum.

 • The Nerdjosh: Random uppercut.

 • The Justin “Hollywood Wong” Wong: Repeatedly sweep you with slow sweeps that are underused by most players like Rufus crouching Roundhouse. The minute Justin feels you are not holding down-back, he sweeps your shit.

 • The Nemo : Abusing ridiculous patterns that your opponent will be sure that you DON’T do. This is most likely noticeable in Nemo’s last NSB appearance. He mashes on sweep against RF for the win. Very random, but he somehow knew it would work on him. If anyone tries this in the states, they’ll probably get deep jump roundhoused into ultra by LI Joe

 • The Mago : Using st.short xx tiger shot like it’s Ryu’s low forward fireball. If you’ve noticed, he never really presses any button except that. When he’s tapping you with st.shorts, and no tiger shots to fish for your ultra - remember that he is FEELING himself. Also, the new school Mago is kara uppercutting jumps always.

The Uryo : Uses random sweeps to get that knockdown. You know when he’s fishing for that knockdown, he is…say it with me kids, FEELING HIMSELF!!

Ryu Players

 • When they fish for counter hit low fierce into fireball, you know that they know what’s up. If you come across this, they are most likely FEELING themselves and trying to catch you teching.

More to be added later, this is what came up off the top of my head.

edit: Forgot to mention, if you find any of your own…feel free to add. If it’s godlike then it’s going on first post

magnetomaniac is really feeling himself with this post!

More obscure terms…great!

i start feelin myself when i hit fools with “The Gootecks”. The Gootecks = train your opponent into tick throw pattern with 1 or 2 crouching jabs into throw, then when you feel the moment is right, instead of going in for throw, you walk back slightly and do crouching strong canceled into jab rush punch xx Super. If the opponent blocks that setup, I’m sorry but you are NOT feelin youself. You just THINK you’re in there but you’re really NOT in there, DS style. A good example of a player FEELIN ’ HIMSELF is Daigo in this match -vs- Rikuson.

From 0:17 to 0:30, Daigo jumps in and tries to STYLE on Rikuson with tight block string, tried to sweep, then the hype combo. The only drawback to feeling yourself too hard is that you’re more prone to getting hit by random desperation reversal uppercuts and/or ultras so you can get hurt really bad. On the flip side though, if you get punished and just keep going in anyway, you create the illusion that the momentum has not really shifted at all and you don’t allow your opponents to feel themselves.
In the video I linked above, from 1:10 until the end of the match, Daigo was again FEELIN’ HIMSELF!

To add more examples of people FEELIN THEMSELVES:

The Sabin: Skillfully dodging everything you try to hit him with by using air teleports, drills, slides, crouch techs, backdashes. After all that evasion, he brings players to a point of frustration where they start do the DUMB stuff like randomly jumping and focus-dashing ,jumping, and random EX Rush punches from full screen, again, DS style. To add insult to injury, he mixes you up with a teleport / yoga fire setup into super and at that point you’re chances of winning just go to shit.

The Zohta: Dashes under your jumps and catches you with Zangief’s 720. He also spaces Zangief’s dash so that he dashes close enough to you to think that you can punish the recovery of his dash but he’s actually churning that butter during the dash and as soon as he sees the limb come out he just 720’s that shit. Very demoralizing.

The Sanford: Mashes on all the buttons marvel style when he hits you with a multi hitting Ultra (for example the ender on Ken’s ultra and Chun’s Ultra). This doesn’t really serve a purpose but it comes from Marvel. Also, psychologically when Sanford is mashing buttons next to you or pressing the buttons really hard and loud, you KNOW that he’s feelin himself so it makes you afraid to go in and shift the momentum.

The Nerdjosh: Random uppercut.

The Justin “Hollywood Wong” Wong: Repeatedly sweep you with slow sweeps that are underused by most players like Rufus crouching Roundhouse. The minute Justin feels you are not holding down-back, he sweeps your shit.

holy crap!

Good contribution to the thread, Haveetz. First post updated, saved some space because I forgot to save slots :/.

you can tell someones feeling themselves when they look at you and start laughing in your face while taunting you

i never play any of these big name tournament players, but i can speak with authority that online ken is feeling himself when he is bobbing up and down rapidly.

YO UUUUUUUUUGH now here’s a guy that knows what he’s talking about. UUUUUGH yeah when online monsters tap down rapidly you know they’re FEELING themselves.

In before masturbation joke

Some of the funniest stuff period. Churning the butter…toooo hilarious.

what exactly does FEELING ones self mean? are they like jerking it while they play with 1 hand seth killian style? or just feeling the groove of their SF4 character?

Suggestive Topic is Suggestive

that bison knows whats up, id say hes feeling it

that bison is thinking about feeling himself, but i do not believe he has truly begun to feel himself yet.

CEEEE VEEEEE ESSSSSS TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
[/steveh]

The Combofiend: After an Abel anti-air low fierce juggle, he cancels into forward roll instead of short, then jump back roundhouse kicks the floating opponent from behind instead of air grabbing him. If someone gets hit by this stupid thing, shit is on lockdown.

This is a good thread.

when any chun starts doing stomp shenanigans… they’re feeling themsalves.

when people cancel a non hitconfirmed low poke into fadc, they’re feeling themselves.

when akumas do hurricane reset mixups, they’re feeling themselves.

when valle throws people on wakeup twice in a row, hes feeling himself.

when valle does a poketring into a blocked lvl 2 fa forward dash, hes feeling himself.

when a rog does the entire uppercut loop x4 or whatever into headbutt into ultra, he’s feeling himself.

when someone picks dan, they’re feeling themselves.

when akuma roundhouse loops sagat, hes feeling himself (arguable)
