Ryu is just a pain in the ass because of Shinkuu Hadouken. Against 90% of the people use Ryu online you can just block low and wait for him to either finish a tatsumaki or his wall-bounce kick and the go into a combo. You just need to avoid letting in cheap shots and just block low until he leaves himself open. A good Ryu player is a different story but I’ve yet to really encounter one in close to 1000 battles. Ryu is hard to play in an unpredictable style so once you can suss out whether he’s attacking high or low then he’s not that dangerous.
Zero is another story. For the most part, block low. He’s open to jabs after his purple dash (anything that isn’t fast will just get eaten). He’s more open after a whiffed shoryuken. Better Zero players try and open with a diagonal dash that hits high. Block that and then go into a combo. He’s also open after his teleport. Basically, you have to wait. His attacks have so little start-up that it’s not possible to sneak in attacks. If they screw the timing on a string, use it to block, not to attack.
Boy do i have something to say about this…
Zero can be played ridiculously aggressive especial in the hands of a pro, being patient ((( MAY))) sometimes be fruitful…but this may only give your opponent the time he needs to figure out your just buying time, being that hes a pro he’ll adjust…AND YOUR DEAD…your options against Zero vary from char. to char. traditionally you’d want to prevent his air game being that this is were atleast 72% of his Cross up’s are created. Avoid any areas directly in front of him or beneath him…being in these places only offer him the opportunity to begin his Mix ups and Cross ups. A reasonable char. with projectiles should disrupt Zeros air game just a tad bit and force him to spend a little more time on the ground thought he has a sword in range it fails to meet the distance necessary to complete most strings pay attention to this, capitalizing on these openings make a big difference…(this is something that most Zero players who rely on his fast pokes fail to notice). Though his Ryuenjin is punishable it leaves not to many areas of weakness if blocked or missed if u haven’t yet found a safe way to deal with this move try Cross-Over-Countering or Advance Guarding the move directly before the Ryuenjin comes out this should give you just enough room to punish with a reasonable combo. (((Ex. Ken’s Bird Shoot )))works great. Dealing with Zero’s pokes is dreadful but interesting your best bet is to stick to the air during his pokes i say this because nearly all of Zero’s combos fail against an air born opponent if done correctly. Also most chars. air entry’s have priority over Zero’s pokes and or allow time enough to begin your own Cross/Mix up strategies. Just like most other Projectile chars. Zero has poor recover you may want to punish this occasionally…All in All Zero is completely destructible studying and predicting your opponent is KEY
p.s This is all basic info I’ve gathered from exactly (5 n 1/2) weeks trying to beak Zero down. By far the char. that used to annoy me the most.
After playing a bunch of Ryus, I have found he is quite invunerable.
As most people said for Zero, hold down back. The same applies to Ryu. His J. C is blocked high, then every single move he does (Disregarding 6B) can be blocked low.
But the cool thing is if he does the exact same combo everytime you can jab him right out of the tatsmaki on startup (As well as ending, the only problem is he could BBQ out of it). However, the thing is for both Ryu and Zero, you’re basically waiting for them to waste their BBQ and their assist since that’s the only time you can truly call the situation safe.
The other thing is because he’s hammering on you in blockstring, you’ll always have a bit of baroque, so if he finishes off a block string with his Tatsumaki super, you can Baroque right into a block, then punish him when the super ends.
The guides was not posted to be special or make you go wow…
its just insights as to practical ways player’s could deal with Zero safely…OF COURSE JUST READING IT WONT AUTOMATICALLY GET YOU THE W, i was pointing out some things you should know going into the match…
