This is much closer to true.
Keits, nice videos on the other thread… any tips on a n00b cammy?
Sure, even though it probably belongs in the cammy thread. Cammy is interesting in this game. She has good tools to get in on fireball characters, but most of them require a correct ‘guess’ to work. That means learning to read your opponent. If you cant do this very well yet, Cammy is going to be a nightmare for you vs opponents with fireballs.
Once she gets in, though, most players are reporting her as being ‘terrifying’. Weak cannon drill at the right ranges is not only totally safe, but seems to give some advantage. From there, you need to check your range and either do another weak cannon drill, or c.mk xx cannon drill or s.hp xx cannon drill. Once you can do this pattern, and people get comfy blocking, throw in a hooligan throw and keep them guessing, or do a quick cannon spike if you suspect they will jump up (which is a smart way to deal with cannon drills, IF the cammy doesnt sniff it out and cannon spike).
I dont recommend her to beginers, just because of the difficulty of getting in on smart players with fireballs. It takes a lot of patience and reading. If you love her and want to stick with it though, good luck to you and you can hit me up for advice anytime.
Seem to have been doing quite well with her so far… dont think people know how to handle her Been using the spinning back hand to get in through the fireballs, then using c.mk->cannon drill to put pressure on. Once they’re on the floor using a j.forward to cross-up, if I can land behind getting in a throw too.
Loving it at the moment
Dunno about the rest, but Watson is an asshole. Although he’s pretty irrelevant so I guess what you guys were saying could be true.
getting schooled by audioCG,
as a side note cant believe people still cant get around constant fbing
You sir are insane. haha
Thus far I I haven’t experienced much unneeded aggression from good players. Scootmage and JiraiSRK were both very well mannered. My IRL friend is a bit of an asshole when people start “doing stupid things” But it’s not really mean. But I know what King means when he talks about how a lot are, because from experience in any game, the great players are a lot of the time the worst people to know.
Back on subject. I have to say I don’t completely agree with asking random players what they do, however, you were smart to post here. Now most likely, everyone that posts on this thread will be more than happy to give you advice in game.
What’s important to remember when playing though… is that no matter what someone it doing, it is NEVER ‘mindless bullshit’ if it’s beating you. If it is, then beat it, You have more of an advantage of countering random stuff ( when a player doesn’t know what he’s doing) Or the same two or three moves ( Granted the players character doesn’t have some colossal advantage over you.)
BUT OVERALL- enjoy it, and never get discouraged.
I wish there were some sort of apprenticeship program or something …
With a new generation of players coming in playing HDR getting ready for SFIV, maybe it’s time for a SRK “help a n00b” program
Lol. Hello Pilgrim. This is mbmonk on PSN. I am struggling to get better, and I just came to this conclusion with Ken. Basically just use/learn normals. I started this last night and learn a couple of things ( my short beats his RH type stuff). The game got exciting again. I had hit a point where I wasn’t learning and I was just losing. That isn’t so fun :). So using just normals got me moving forward again.
got an ass kicking today by Wurvy and Saint Enigma today i had 20 or so losses. It was pretty bad. I did not learn much mainly cause they kept switching up characters and was making it difficult to formulate a plan of attack. Nonetheless i did see one glaring difference between them and myself: COMBOS. Every time an opportunity presented itself they comboed. 2/3 hit combos that were devastating in-terms of damage. I cant combo in ST for the life of me so its back to practice mode to practice BnB combos until i can nail them 80% of the time they present themselves in a match. Another thing i discovered is the tick-throw appears to be very powerful in tight situations I will be practicing that as well. sigh.
Dont get down. ST is hard. if you can play st you can learn any game.
Yeah this is the first SF game I have ever played. I’m trying to find a character that I can stick with. I like Cammy but shes pretty hard, its just I can’t do charge moves or “hold ->” kind of moves for shite. Any tips? I am using the 360 pad, I use the analog stick. The Dpad sucks. If I can figure out how to do charge moves I think I would be able to stick with a character and get good with them faster (but that isn’t saying much lol).
Marvel
boomhead: buy a stick, don’t play 360 pad, ESP analog on any fighter
Thanks, I’ve been reading up on them, I already know which ones are the best (lots of lurking).
That’s why I think ST is one of the best 2d fighters to learn…it’s strictness and punishing nature really teach you the fundamentals of being good at fighters. I’ve leveled up my game in every other fighter I play because of ST
Stick with it…ST is hella fun, there’s a great community behind it, and it’ll make you better at other fighters
Playing this game has convinced me that I need a stick. In games like CvS I always felt comfortable with a pad, but I feel restricted by it in this game. I can’t explain why, but certain inputs where (obviously) MADE for arcade. I can’t wait til my HRAP 2 gets here in a couple days.
I thought I was a good player until I played this game. I can beat lower level guys fine, but I get hammered by people who know what they’re doing. Right now my method is to stick with one character and spam games. I try to play people who are better than I am, and I always ask them how and why they beat me afterwards. I’m improving already as a result.
Most of the advice in this thread is sound.
Remember don’t train more…train smart.
Meaning don’t just play and play. It could take years before you even become decent. But if you train and learn your weaknesses, understand your good normals/pokes, your block strings, mix-ups, master your combos, and play good people then you can become a good player in a matter of months and that applies to all fighting games really.
Sorry for this n00bey question, but how do you “charge?” I can’t do any of the moves where it says “charge <-, -> + P”. Any tips?
