How to counter throws?

Yeah - I can’t believe how naked I feel without being able to mash out crouch techs too protect myself. This game totally exposed me as a new age FG fan lol D:

so…why aren’t you doing the same? but all honesty you need better attitude befor you can even figure this out. Calling the tatic cheap and player who use it noobs is pretty pathetic. while effective tactic it with its limits.

  1. Their risking to use as they reqiur the opponent to be nutrall, in other words the oppnent having about 90% controll of their character (air throws im not sure)

2 even if successful their not the most damaging secarnios as most throws scale a combo. Combo starting from throws are consider loops so most of the time combos are shorten or else IPS kicks in.

, the only true way to deal with this is weight risk and reward of throws into certain situations. While its impossible to be completely accurate, skull girls allow many different options where one can limit the scenarios. If anything I think one can expect throws more often from certain characters. Look out for certain character who benefits from throw often. I think painwheel, and cerebella are the worst offender for using the tatics. Painwheel can be very consistent with it to little to no cost, cerebella isn’t as consistent but her is very damaging.

technically they have around the same tech window as in sf4 (sf4 window is 10 frames from a standing position and 7 frames from a crouching position)

in this game the tech window is 5 frames but throws themselves cant be thrown (except for command grabs) so add in the 6 fraes of throw startup as being invulnerable and you have an 11 frame throw tech window.

now that having been said, the game is faster than streetfighter and therefor its harder to anticipate when exactly a throw will come because the opponent has alot more options at throw range than just a throw or frame trap with a ground normal… anywho, to make this answer more precise, there are in general 4 different ways to beat throws in most fighting games and the same applies to skullgirls, but ill add one in that should be obvious but sometimes isnt to newer people:

  1. tech the throw
  2. jump
  3. do an invincible reversal
  4. dont let them get into range to throw you in the first place

and the last one, the “obvious” one:

learn your opponents throw patterns, chances are that they tend to throw in the same spots, once you recognize those spots you can choose which of the 4 counters best deals with your opponents throw patterns… sometimes its best to just jumpout especially if your opponent hasnt shown an ability to frame trap jumps.

if they have, then tech isnt a good idea either, its best to go for a reversal if they are running throw/low or frame trap.

if you find that their setup is really obvious like always airdashing in with a light attack and then throwing you can easily use the 4th defense which is just to defend against the airdash. no airdash means no throw setup.

etc etc

and finally everyone gets thrown and everyone eats throw based mixups, they are an important part of the game cause if they werent there then they could just hold downback or upback all day and defend against almost all attacks, realize that throws are a part of the game that you need to wrap your mind around and you will probably have better luck defending against them.

also, if you think throw spam is so easy… DO IT. you will quickly find people that can counter your offense using the defenses i mentioned, and when that happens, you’ve just had your opponent teach you how to defend against the thing that was giving you problems. learning in that way is one of the easier ways to figure out how to deal with shit, just run it yourself and let others figure the defense out for you.

Watch out for me and my air dash hp with Filia + Valentine command throw assist.
Shit is so dirty. Better jump or you will probably end up in the body bag.
