So I’m pushing for this new standard called TST which is called Tournament Standard Time. It’s a formula to figure out when a tournament actually starts as opposed to it’s advertised start time.
TST = Start Time + 10/(number of tournaments organizing group has thrown before) x ( (1 minute x number of entrants) + (2 minutes x number of big name seeds))
(1 minute x number of entrants) - accounting for that big tournaments naturally run really late due to registration, collecting fees, and creating and seeding the brackets.
(2 minutes x number of big name seeds) - because we all know that we can’t start or continue the tourney until Mike Ross or Justin Wong arrives I notice that big name players like to be fashionably late.
10/(number of tournaments organizing group has thrown before) - This is factor which I call the “EVO Factor” contributed by James Chen. You multiple the entire delay by this factor and account for how much tournament experience the organizers have. If the organizers have actually thrown more than 10 tournaments you’ll notice that the delay actually decreases as we witnessed at EVO 2009 when some tournaments actually finished early or on time.
So far the formula seems to be accurate to about +/- 30 minutes so I’m looking for a more accurate and percise formula. So in your experience what factors figure in the delay of a start of a tournament?
