You aren’t the only one. A few months ago I used one for the first time and couldn’t do supers or 360s on them. That lariat came out every time I went for a meat squasher.

As most of you probably know, the two biggest japanese hugo players are YSB and Hayao, and I have seen some ridiculous beasting on both of their parts.
I tend to learn more from watching YSB. He usually plays with sa3, but the attribute of his worth noting (imo) is his balance of offense and defense. I haven’t played him in person (please come to evo), but his vids showcase some ridiculous mind games. He doesn’t win all of these, but they showcase his skill quite nicely.

^This guy has a lot of YSB vids from recent ranbats. Every one is quality.
Hayao on the other hand is my favorite 3s player. He uses gigas, and generally straight up turtles. I have seen matches of his where right when the round starts, he holds back and walks into the corner. This guy has skills. Amazing parries, godly reaction time, a ridiculous amount of patience, and the sickest gigas i’ve ever seen. I tend to pay the closest attention to when he decides to block or parry.

Classic. Probably Hayao’s most known performance. Keep in mind this is KO and Kokujin, two of Japan’s finest. I couldn’t find a cut of just Hayao’s portion, but its only ten minutes long, and well worth the ten minutes.

I love watching those YSB and Hayao vids and they are great examples of when it is most useful to parry and block certain attacks. I recently started to borrow their styles a bit and its helped a lot. The most crazy thing is that I was recently at the Cal Poly tourney where they had the Clockwork vs DP money match(You can see me on the 3rd cab next to Clockwork) and I was getting quite a few win streaks and I still am in disbelief that I beat Vic’s Dudley with my Hugo right before the tourney started. His Dud is beastly. :woot:

Hugo is beastable , its easier to beast on him that you beasting with him
but most of hugo players that Ive seen say that a corner trap is pretty much the only way you can beast on your opponent, either that or gigas on midscrean I guess
unless your opponent doesn’t roll your knockdowns and regular throws, corner traps and mixups with slaps and 360s is about it. thank god for meat squasher.
s.short xx clap dash mixups are seriously beastly. whiff/meaty clap mixups are also seriously beastly. as are standing shorts that whiff into grab, tick into grab or combo into ex lariat.
but all of that is corner only. hugo isn’t fast enough to chase tech rolls like ken can to do some semi beasting mid screen. seriously, mid screen low forward -> dash mixups get beaten by tech roll shoto sweep. its stupid.
in fact the only time you can safely cross someone up is unrolled throws, unrolled back breaker (iirc) and gigas with your back to the corner.
which is pretty rare.
all they needed to do make hugo good was add a whole second to all his knockdown times to give him a chance to get in and actually do something.
