How to AA Lariat?

Like I said blackout doesn’t know how to do aa lariet. I feel kind of bad pointing out bad advise and it may seem personal but it’s not. Block reversal will get you destroyed in mid to high level play where they are back jumping njing or dashing. Also if your op is good they have solid block strings and you will be out of lp spd range by the time your out of block stun. If I was playing jumpin to sweep scrubs I could block then spd not vs good comp. Mp is a really shitty aa good vs nj’s and a few outhers but tends to trade and you lose more life then them. Also how do you deal with cross up’s if you don’t use aa lariet.

But the reason I don’t block and then 360 is because I can’t do it. It’s so hard lol :looney:

raises hand in the ‘best or close to best’ AA in the game camp

Why do I lose/trade? Because I’m online…when I run in person, with no lag…its really a non-issue to time…online you train yourself to ‘predict’ instead of react, so yes, Akuma/Gouken/Chun-li can vary their timing and screw with you. The ONLY thing Li has that gives me any real pause is her s.rh and s.mp (not saying those are her only tools, just the ‘wtf’ ones).

And honestly? If you don’t have faith in c.lariat - avoid the situation entirely. S.rh anytime you think a jump is coming. Jump ‘back’ with a rh or something.

Now, my question is - how many frames does it take to do a wake-up un-throwable PPP.

  • :bluu:

Didn’t they remove unthrowable PPP? [need to test]

raises hand in the PPP is a good AA tool not infallible, definitely not better than a DP camp

Thing with AA lariat is, your timing needs to be VERY VERY accurate where other AA’s there is more leeway. When you believe cr.PPP is superman, shit like this happens:

  • End of a round, you’ve AA’ed Akuma’s dive kick 2-3 times already. You got the late timing on that lock. Then his last attempt he goes with a Palm instead. You’ll either get KD because you were timing the LATE PPP or the PPP will be safe jumped. Prepare for some vortexing.

Or

-your feeling yourself, you’ve been AA’ing rogs j.HK w/o issue.[kudos to you, that’s one of the harder AA’s for Gief] Then on his last attempt he safe jumped your PPP. HB > Ultra…match set point…

So, not agreeing with the statement PPP “sucks” just that its not a jet out a jail free card and good players know how to bait and punish that shit. Sometimes as Gief, you do need to block jump-ins. IMO.

DP’s can be safe jumped and beaten with the right timing, too. I don’t think anyone is suggesting that lariat is so gdlk that it stops all airborne pressure, just that it’s the shit because it pretty much shuts down an entire dimension of play against many (maybe most) characters.

Most jumpins get beat or trade with lariat for a knockdown that leaves Gief really close; it’s pretty damn difficult to cross him up; and it’s activated (if you use DS3) with one button, meaning you can react much faster than somebody that’s gotta hold a charge or have to put in a DP motion and be worried about what strength of the move to use.

Lariat is a near instant AA that beats damn near everything, and the only downsides are that it’s got horrible recovery (like most DPs) and can be safe jumped (like most DPs). I’ll say it again. Lariat is the Aegis Shield of SSFIV.
