loli-con yes, though it doesnt necesarily means pedophile per se
btw
pedophile and pederasty are not the same (at least here in my country, legally speaking)
loli is any girl between 6 to 13, though here on srk some use the word to describe something that they dont like despite if its really loli related or female related at least :looney:
yeah i was listening to it, alot of people are going to be mad but…honestly i think paying for these DLC Gems now is a way to support the game in the long run, in hoping they will make the game better and better. but i guess most are not as optimistic as I…but others may say im being a blind capcom fanatic who would buy anything they put out…which is not true at all…
yet still many support them at the end
many think that i have some sort of vendetta against capcom for being vocal on what i dont like about what they do this days, but in the end i also end buying their games (im a fighting game junkie plus TO, always buy the games with the hope of finding a new gem, not always works though :/)
Personally, I like what EVO is doing in having it banned until further notice. Once the game comes out we can go in depth and figure out if the ban is warranted but until then there’s no reason to risk leaving it there and having people throw up in arms because it’s unpractical right off the bat, dividing things even more.
Also, in terms of the DLC packs I’d just ban them right off regardless of how gems turn out. It’s an unnecessary expense where in the situation that we decide to allow gems, everyone might not have access to. It isn’t of the same magnitude as a new character or anything like that.
End lag is easily understandable as recovery, I’m used to saying it because thats what was said in Smash 64/Melee. Also I’m not really a “new member” per se
This may be true for larger events, but what about very small local tournies? Grassroots competitive play is the lifeblood of fighters, and this game doesn’t have an arcade version either. The organizational answers you came up with would work for small to mid level tournies, but not for the smallest local events. It just doesn’t make sense for a fighting game. Of course this all depends on what exact amount has to be dished out.
Sentiments like this are pretty useless. Going beyond what you “need” is a lot of what lets genres evolve and for games to be more enjoyable in ways one decade than the next. We don’t need EX moves, dont add them! We dont need character specific mechanics, dont add them! We dont need new move properties, dont add them! We dont need new character archetypes, dont add them! IMO gems had good potential to be something that adds heavily to strategies, playstyles, balance, etc, but Capcom seems to be mishandling it very heavily so far.
Edit: Also, regarding the whole “optimal builds” thing…do some of you really think that’s guaranteed to be the case? If you could, say, improve the startup or recovery or whatever on a handful of moves, will there necessarily be an optimal combination that doesnt vary by matchup, playstyle, etc?
The only unsolvable problem with gems is the time it takes to select them. How long does it take to select 5 from hundreds (thousands?) of possible gems? There are easy ways to work around this in the home version of the game, but none of them are workable in a tournament format where hundreds of people will be sharing the same console, many of which who have never laid hands on it before.
At EVO we budget about 5 minutes for an SF4 match with 2 minutes for button config between matches. If we need to increase that budget to allow for another 3 minutes for people to choose all their gems, that’s an increase of over 40% in the time it will take to run the tournament, which effectively means we need 40% more consoles to finish on-time. That’s a tall order.
This game needs some kind of password system. You know, players go in their homes, make a Gem set and the game gives them a preset password that they can use in any console and it’ll give them their gem sets, considering all gems necessary are unlocked. It would solve a lot of problems - as long as you made making a gem-set previously to the tournament a rule, that is, which I’m not sure how well would work.
Systems like this Gem system are really the enemy of solid, fun, fighting games. Can’t believe you can’t turn it off.
Reminds me of the Bleach DS games. Kick ass game play, but ruined online because of the “card” system. But even in that game it was possible to play with out.
We shouldn’t support forced rule sets like this that affect game play( especially if we have to pay/grind for gems). Still, we haven’t really tested it so hopefully my fears are for not.
Its sad how I honestly had hype for this game then Capcom went and did something stupid like this. They should ban gems outright, seems like it gives random benefits to players.
would it be easier to limit the amount of gems that can be used at a tournament like Evo? Like the tournament standards would be to use the basic set of gems that are given so you wouldn’t have to go through the extra time of getting gems and you won’t have to go through the hassle of needing to get all of them.
IMO the only thing that they can do is make the basic gems you don’t have to pay extra $$$ to get (ones that aren’t DLC or come with a special edition of the game) the only ones you can use.
I wasn’t that hyped for this game and the Gem system kind of killed it. I appreciate the fact that Ono wants to make players have customizable options to spark more creativity but this shit is just not going to work. Out of the X number of gems availible im sure only a couple will be really viable with 1 being more broken than the rest of the pack.
Seems like they were trying to expand the groove system of CvS2 by making jems more specific and more in quantity.
Who knows, maybe the gem system will be Godlike… but I highly doubt thats the case.
Suppose you let people use the letters A-Z in their password. If there are more than 676 gems total, you need 3-letters per gem for a total of 15-letters in your code. So players would have to memorize some esoteric pattern like: UYH-JHU-KIH-OIU-YHG-PQZ and enter it without mistakes at the gem select screen. If you have many different gem sets like your anti-rufu-throw-tech-set, you have many patterns to memorize. I’m guessing people will come in with sheets of paper with their 10 gem sets written down and have to copy them into the game.
If you consider that it takes 2 minutes already just for people to enter and check their buttons (are people going to do gem-checks, too? GADS), I can easily imagine this taking 5 minutes or more, which leads you to the “need 40% more consoles” option.
I, personally, would like to hear more from Capcom about how they are making the gem system tournament friendly. I understand they’re not designing the system with tournaments in mind, but they must be aware of this problem, and I’d like to hear how they plan to address it.
You know, as RADICAL and CRAZY and extremist as this might sound to some of you, maybe this game shouldn’t be shoved into a competitive mold so early.
If we get so antsy at the Smash community for trying to shove a ‘party’ game into a competitive mold perhaps we should consider that in this situation it might be the other way around?
I honestly agree. Every announcement made about this game thus far has made me wonder if they were really designing the game with tournaments in mind. It’s clear that they are not, so it shouldn’t be forced it into a tournament environment just because it is a Capcom game.
