as a TO (for small as it may be being one in my country), I’d suggest to start at first with banning DLC / super hard or tiem consuming to unlock gems, and then see how the situation evolves. (no banning the base gems since they’re mandatory anyways, and actually could be an interesting way to deepen the game).
If, say, there is going to be only a couple of DLC packs containing all the extra gems at a reasonable price then we could allow them (if not utterly broken). Else, if Capcom is going to release something like a ton of very small packs (let’s say, 5-gem pack 200ms points apiece) mounting for LOTS of money for each setup to have them all available, let’s just ban them all.
You know it makes me wonder how much gems will cost…if its like 99 cents a gem (for like a bundle of 5 for $5) would it be a bit more acceptable? that’s essentially buying jill/shuma for each console you have playing.
I think the problem now is that capcom is claiming the gem system is an important part of the game, so much so that they don’t have an option to disable it.
If Capcom thinks gems are so important, they shouldn’t force players to buy/unlock gems. This is worse than unlockable/downloadable characters IMO. It’s unlocking a major game mechanic that some players could already have that you don’t. You and someone else could essentially be playing different games.
Hopefully if this gets banned, there will at least be a gem that does almost nothing. Maybe there’s a gem that increases Pandora time, just stack 5 of those and ban Pandora while we’re at it. Then we’ll have the game we (or at least I) originally wanted. No gems, no pandora.
dont ban anything, only ban stuff when its proved to be game breaking
also banning gems for being dlc is like banning chars for being dlc imo
the only real reason to ban a gem is if they are exclussive to consoles or only for the preorder or for the limited edition
yea, now that I think about it, I’m curious to see how selecting the gems will work.
10 gems chosen from 45+…that may take a huge amount of time even if you already know what you’re gonna pick. Scrolling through them won’t work cause there are too many. Maybe they’ll just turn the character select screen into a gem select screen lol
i imagine (at least is what common sense and experience tell me) that the 5 gems slots are for 5 diferent types of gems, so you can only select one for attack, one for deffense, one for assist, one for some passive stuff and the other for whatever category it falls
if they do them that way the select procces is less time consuming plus, it restricts the use of them adding more strategy on your selection
^ @Hecatom.
I’m sure they’re still experimenting with the implementation of this.
If it’s one for each then… why not have a fast, damaging, and ++health of everyone? Dunno… speculation would make it seem so. And if there was this restriction, wouldn’t everyone in gem mode be an ideal super-powered version of themselves?
Those aren’t the only 2 gems. I mean we can ban certain gems like auto block and auto tech because you should learn how to do that on your own at a competative level but i mean the speed gems seems cool.
I’m not going to pretend that I like the idea of the Gem system in any way shape or form because it adds more to a fighting game than you need. But it would be in the community’s worst interest to not try the idea out and see where it goes. As a community we know that custom combo system are just shitty ideas at pretty much all levels; we only know this because its been to tournaments and usually they have dominated everything else. For better or worse the reversal input change in SF4 was a step in the right direction by trying something new; a good chunk of us can honestly say we’d rather not have it after all.
Outright knee jerk ban of the Gem system won’t do the community any good and it prevents one area of design that could further happen in the future. I would rather characters stay the same across the board in all games because the logistics of selecting character and of playing the game are much simpler and add a stark contrast to the MMO stuff that I doubt FG needs. But if the idea doesn’t get a fully supported shot all it means is that developers get crappy feedback and everybody ends up butthurt for one reason or another.
So really, throw the dice and let it ride. Even if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t try to stop it. Unless of course this is a segway to a SF MMO. At that point who f-ing cares.
Edit: Banning gems would also go against the long held tradition of keeping things as close to arcade as possible. It simplifies it for all that get the game because the only thing they have to worry is about the shit that is on the character select. This is a good thing for the community.
dunno you but im still optimistic on how they can handle this
expanding on my theory
you can have 5 types of gems wich you can select only one for each other
some group can be passive gems that are enable throug the whole match, like more health, more attack, more deffense (dunno if this game has deffense modifiers) or something like that; also they can be implemented in a way where they have an advantage but at the same time they have a backdraw, more attack means less health, that way you have diferent combinations on how the change your stats
you can have a set that add abilities like the auto throw tech and auto guard that need to be activated before using them and have a cost (metter as have been said) and are only avaible for a period of time
Well from what I understand about those two gems, they require a meter to activate and won’t do anything if your meter is empty. However I’m for banning these things right now. If more information is released and this system sounds a bit more bearable then maybe I’ll reconsider. I’m definitely not happy about the DLC gems and they better not be good gems and if they are they should definitely be banned. TO’s shouldn’t have to fork over so much money to support this game.
I’d like to bring up a point about the DLC gems as well. If there are a lot of gems to buy and DLC and they are all legal at tournaments, the TO’s could eventually turn around and impose their cost on the players by increasing entry fees. Now you get to buy them for your home system and essentially help rebuy them at a tournament. I’m not about this at all.
I heard that you are FORCED to pick 5 games, that makes my vote to ban them completly invalid. if there is an no gem-mode or the option to play without them, then that has to be used. if there are 100+ gems in the future and you’re forced to choose from the 36 basis ones, it just doesn’t feel right - it’s like saying “you don’t use ex moves from this and this speciall”. it’s simplier to just ban all of them.
Option 2, again, would require a thorough search of DLC files for a TO. Hard to keep a track of / enforce when you have multiple setups.
Option 3 would be difficult to enforce if there were gems unlocked during the course of versus play like in MvC3.
The Gem system it’s an absolutely step forward for fighting games, it wont be just up to execution skills, now you’ll need planning & experimenting… Options will be unlimited & I like it
Based on bullsh*t assumptions
Whiners and complainers haven’t even played one minute of the game to get a feel of the game much less the system
bitching & calling for banning of gem system when u can’t is so laughable
