Eh, think about it. When was the last time we ever had to ban ANYTHING from Capcom? That was Akuma in ST (not counting HDR). I don’t like this Gems concept one bit as of now, but perhaps they’ll make some modifications or the gem system as of now won’t even be that bad. I’m just looking on the bright side here.
Yea, I say we should just wait and see how the final build with the Gems will be like…
…Because we all know there will be multiply patches for this shit in the furture. Hell for this game in general, the variety of the game mechcanics + the gems…I expect a minimal of 3 patches coming after the release.
This game is like a Cake with Too Much Fucking Icing .
Jumping the gun and calling for a ban at this point is just silly, in my opinion. We don’t even know how they will be implemented or acquired. My answer to the poll was “Ban DLC Gems” because I’m guessing there will be some as DLC and some unlockable in-game but, honestly, I’m with the “wait & see” crowd.
Turning a blind eye on the dlc thing, the gem system may actually be interesting.
But to me 5 gems seem too many. Of course I haven’t played the game, so I might be wrong, but 5 gems means 5 different conditions to activate them and 5 different conditions you have to prevent your opponent to meet. Sounds like you’ll end up glowing red/blue/green half the time and probably won’t even care about meeting the conditions most of the time, cause you and your opponent are gonna activate some of them anyway.
I mean: if I have a gem that activates when I land 3 hits, a gem that activates when I land 2 throws, one that needs a few specials and the other 2 defensive gems that activate when I get hit and when I get thrown…well, I don’t see much strategy in there, whatever I’m gonna do, I’m gonna activate something.
I think the 3-gems system they had might be better, more focused on just a few powerups.
If Gief has a gem that activates a dmg boost when he lands a few normals, then you’ll have to take the risk of getting command grabbed, or get hit by a normal attack (that’s usually better than a 360) and move him closer to activate his gem…If he has both a gem that activates with normal moves and a gem that activates with grabs (plus 3 other gems), where’s the strategy in that?
Yeah, these conditions are my worry too. It seems pretty much random so far that you don’t have a real control of these things… And yet, there’s the DLC Gems to come too. So I don’t know man.
this thread is so stupid and a waste of time. gem system is fine, this game is so different in so many ways. deal with the changes.
Many of you dont even know so much about it and to ban it at tournaments is stupid bc it is built in the game–
GET THIS STRAIGHT TO THE GUY THAT STARTED THIS THREAD AND THOSE THAT WANT THE GEM SYSTEM BANNED
IF UR THINKING IN THE BOX OF EXPECTING A SF4 LIKE GAME UR A MORON. GEM SYSTEM IS ACTUALLY INTERESTING SO STOP THINKING IN TERMS OF SF4 LIKE GAMEPLAY.
WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT AUTO BLOCK AND AUTO THROW TECH, THROWING IN SFVSTK IS ASS (but on purpose) AND Gems REQUIRE METER AT THE EXPENSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO USE CROSS ATTACK SUPER OR WHATEVER IT IS CALLED
So using gems is not so free…embrace change.
I was already questioning the tournament validity of this game, this gem system just makes it less viable in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally hyped for this game and will most likely buy 3 versions of it (360/PS3/Vita) but already its look to be unbalanced. Especially if the game is BASED off of the gem system. So if gem’s aren’t used, does that slow down the game? is it dumbed down? is that why the game in earlier builds always ended in timeouts? We’ll have to see what happens when more info is given but right now as far as tourney’s go I’m throwing this game out the window.
Right now we have yet to see the effect of these abilities you listed and you’re right, we need more info. But right now strictly with the information given gem system breaks the game, period. Might as well be playing Heroes vs Heralds mode in UMVC3 in tournaments too. All for One buff, Xfactor buff, - Team of Phoenix Phoenix Phoenix. GG.
No one expected SF4 like gameplay, if anything we’re expecting more along the lines of Tekken Tag which is not only tournament viable but EXACTLY what SFxT is based off of. Even with Pandora mode things looked ok but Gem factors are too random. If taken at face value right now, you could in essence create the perfect godlike Team that is top tier and that everyone will pick.
Am I reading smashboards? Seriously? This thread shouldn’t be around (at least not yet).
We are asking to ban something that only a few people have messed with for a little bit and can change by the time the next build comes out.
What the fuck has happened to SRK?
Read the freaking OP.
The question isn’t even about balance. It’s about tournament organizers having to shell out for DLC gems, which could be a bigger and more expensive issue than DLC characters (since we’re bound to get more gems than characters).
In any case, here’s the reply from Seth.
Next bunch of folks who derail the thread with talks about Balance or Smash get infracted.
in regards to the gems in Tournaments…they should only use whats available to them bare bones. so in other words whats on the disk already at the start. Seth said there were default Gems, given that we can rule out DLC as you mention the cost to TO, i don’t want this to be a problem as i see people talk about not having jill/shuma in MVC3 on machines when they play. sp i think we should avoid all DLC that is not mandatory.
I don’t exactly know what is “mandatory” in terms of what should be there for tournament settings. the only DLC i find appropriate for TO absolutely need are Characters and Balance changes. as nothing else really affects the overall gameplay as a whole.
If Blazblue players are able to ensure that Platinum and the other DLC characters are available to play on all their setups, I don’t see why we can’t see to it that DLC gems are always available for players who have formed strategies around them.
well it seems more of a Add on DLC then DLC that formats the game to its Arcade incarnation for a example.
SFxTK Gems are already a touchy subject, and there are alot of unknows. but for the sake of simplicity.
BlazBlue Characters and Balance Changes are important as they are things presented in the arcade version of said game. but BB has other DLC like colors and system voices that as just extras that are not really needed.
SFxTK Gems DLC “could” just be add-on, and to save money for TO not having any DLC ones would help simplify things as this is already on the fence for most, but making do with Default Gems maybe a challenge in itself. but for the most part that is a speculation.
I’m in the “wait and see” camp.
In a recent interview they made mention that there are pre-built sets of gems that you can choose to equip (they recommend it for beginners, with more advanced players wanting to customize things.)
If the issue people have raised about time spent selecting gems is a valid one, then just choosing from the presets would be a good option.
Has this interview been posted?
Ono says that you CANNOT disable gems.
Edit - Ok, turns out though that you can opt to not choose any gems at the char select screen, so gemless matches are still possible.
Well with this news…
I say that for tournaments we have it so no one is allowed to equip any gems. If that is not an option, make a “tourney standard” gem set that included gems that are not overpowering or cater to any specific characters. All tourneys should go by this standard set of gems… Just my 2 cents
Agreed. Either default that gives no character specific bonuses or don’t even play the games at tournaments.
Since they’re gonna be part of the core game mechanics, I’m for banning all DLC gems…the outcome of doing so is all in our favor:
-TOs won’t have to waste money on them
-regular players won’t have to waste money cause “in the last gem-pack there’s that super strong gem that now everyone uses”
-gem packs will not sell much, so next time Capcom will think twice before trying to screw us over by selling “a core game mechanic”. I thought DLC costumes were a lazy way to make money (especially because they sold them in packs of 5 for an exagerated price), but at least they don’t affect the game and can be ignored. I guess they just managed to beat themselves, now they’re selling a few “+10% here” and a “-15% there” that players can’t ignore if they want to keep playing the game without being handicapped by not having all the gems.
I’ll say it again: if nothing changes, the best thing for all of us is to ban every gem that doesn’t come with the starter set, or with a major update (say they make a Super SFxT DLC with rebalance, new characters, mechanics and some gems: those gems should be fine) or that takes more than 10 minutes to be unlocked.
