guess so.
LOL, I got 7th at Evo in 98 UM when I don’t even know the difference between oldskool 98 and UM, I would tear him a new asshole in that game.
I just like watching people stop in mid-air when they Jump Kick in MK vs DC, god that game is hot garbage.
Justin Wong was around 15 or 16 back when I was still playing in Tournys back in '01/'02, I’m guess he’s 22 or 23 by now.
IMO True OG’s are in their 30’s (dudes down since WW)
The Alpha Class are mid to late 20’s (I’m 27)
New Class, MvC2/CvS2 18 ~ 24
Next Gen is 13 ~ 18
Street Fighter IV will bring a lot of folks back and birth many more.
I’ve known Gene for over 2 years now… (3 EVOs) … he should be about 17 now… soon to be 18 if he hasn’t turned 18 already.
Vic is about… 25-26 maybe? He’s pretty young… SaBrE has been around since Moses, j/k. No one has mentioned Combofiend, Clockw0rk, and some other SoCal players…
Seems like people are mostly posting OG ST players.
When you think “Top Player” you think those guys…at least I do.
All the more recent Mortal Kombat games are. I still love them, though, because their shittiness makes me laugh to no end.
Pretty sure this list could be trashed real quick. Then again, I never really competed  Petition to bring back TTT into the mainstream!
I’ve been playing since WW, And by playing I mean c.hk with chuns were my weakness.
I’ve seen top players from 18 - 35.
18, I’m thinking along the lines of Potter a few years ago in MvC2, and 35 is what I was thinking for the Jason Cole era of players.
Wong is 23, this year. He’s a year younger than me.
I can’t say that a 13-year old would ever be a top player.
Not sure about Clockw0rk, but combofiend is about 25, according to the interview on Gooteck’s podcast. Also Pyrolee and Gootecks are about 25, though I believe that Gootecks is a little older.
It appears a lot of 3s players are around the mid 20s mark. While ST players are late 20s/early 30s mark. Which is understandable, since people around my age were teenagers around the time when SFII was released.
What??
looks up youtube channel and facebook
Awwwwwwww shiiiiiiii…
16 to 18 year old top players I could believe, but not much younger. Money is a huge part of competing in these games, and it’s something most kids don’t have, and their parents won’t agree to giving them, because in their parent’s eyes its just mindless video games (for me at least). If you don’t have any source of big income, simply buying a simple Hori EX2 could be months of wait and/or saving up. Older players on the other hand could just buy it on a whim.
Traveling is also very important, but you’ll need parental consent for many cases. If your 15 or younger and you tell your parents your going across the country to spend a few days in a hotel room with men in their mid 20’s, there is no way they would let you go in most cases. Unless you live extremely close to the event and could manage to go to the venue from home each day. I’m 17 and I know my parents will never consent with any of these things since they’re very conservative, so anytime I go to a major I have to say I’m going to a relative’s house or something, because if I tell them the truth I’ll get shot down.
Also, just the raw amount of years of both fighting game and tournament experience will set the younger players apart from the older ones. Especially to a 13 year old, who doesn’t have a good sense of time at that age.
I think Kusumondo is older than that.
I heard in an interview at TGB that Xiaohai (probably best kof98 player in the world, from China) was dominating in Guangzhou when he was only 9 years old. I don’t know what he was dominating in but assuming it was kof98, then that would make him 19 or 20 now. But I think I heard somewhere else that he’s actually 17.
he’s 19, and it was kof97 he was first dominating in.
very interesting. Any more info on this kid?
was he taught by someone or learned to dominate on his own?
(evil laughs)
Foolish young flesh creature! Nothing defeats I, The Deity, unless I allow it. (evil laughs)
Airthrow, your existence belongs to I, The Deity. (evil laughs)
Take a wild guess how many times I am gonna whoop you @ Final Round in KOF98UM???
i’m 28 and untouchable in n64 wrestling games
Kusumondo is 36, and iirc he has a kid too.
There are actually a lot of talented kids around here, especially in VF whenever I play. I saw a couple of 9 and 10 year olds playing 5R here who were just beasting on everyone, including top players. Their reflexes and hand speed were way too crazy.
whoa WHAT? man i want to live in japan. (no really, i’d love to see that many people playing virtua fighter in one area)
where do I fit on that game-age range list anyway? i’m 19 yet i’ve mostly been playing console 3s since i was a junior in HS (local tournies, never been to an arcade tourney, much less EVO, i would love to go next year if 3s is still there) and i can’t see myself playing anything else for a while (i’m on the sfiv bandwagon for now, maybe that’ll change, we’ll never know)
I am eternal
