How often do you select your main character in Player Match?

Only when the other guy decides to talk shit to me because I’m goofing around with Dan. Then I proceed to double perfect him with my main. What a dipshit. Talking shit during player matches while the other guy is obviously goofing off? What kind of shit is that? I’m sick of these teenage punks online who think they’re so tough. The guy was awful. I’ve never used Dan before and I still managed to take a round off of his Sagat.

I have a problem where I don’t know who I’m maining. Sak or Dan, depends on the mood. Usually Dan first to warm up. If I feel good with him, I’ll stick.

all the time i play ryu

You clearly had a better mindgame/execution than he did to at least get a round off his Sagat.

Don’t read too much into this – but to me, it seems there’s way too much machismo it seems online. It’s to be expected with the whole players benefiting from being anonymous.

There’s nothing wrong with picking Dan, but I find it hard to actually take any player seriously when Dan is selected. To me, it’s an indirect way of saying “I am better than you.” Naturally, this isn’t everyone’s intentions, but to me - there’s a lot of blatant posturing. EVERYONE wants to parade around XBL/PSN/PC like they’re amazing.

Save the goofing off for your friends and use the Player Matches constructively to hone your skills with your main and alternate characters.

I haven’t actually picked a character in player match for a while now. It’s always random-select. I don’t have much time to play these days so when I do, it’s all about having fun.

This!

i usually pik my main first then the 3 or 4 other characters i play…i never ever ever play the same character twice in a row…maybe its cuz my play style is one sided and im worried about being figured out…maybe thats my problem lol

never unless it’s someone I know who’s actually decent or if they try to taunt. The competition in player matches is just absolute crap, there’s zero challenge unless I use someone I never play with

i switch quite a lot. people who pick ryu 10 times in a row in playermatches annoy me so they get kicked sooner or later.

if i want to fight against ryu i’ll just do championship mode.

I don’t feel bad for feeling that way now. when folks pick Dan they are either

  1. Saying they are better than me
  2. Testing to see how good I am (an indirect assumption they are better than me)
  3. Or expect to lose and don’t wan their feelings hurt so they pick him in hopes of having an ‘excuse’.

Only time I take a Dan player seriously is when he’s on their icon/title…othewrwise its trash talking lol. Serious Dan players are hella fun to fight though shrug they can take it but give it also. I still wish he had his old reversal Raging Demon though.
(stops digressing)

I’ve grown tired of folks thinking the first person I pick is my best. I hate opening with my best character…I think its kinda silly to use it as a formality, especially with people who freak out the moment you pick Gief or think scrub the moment you pick Gief. If I pick Rose, I’m looked at as cheap and get tells back saying “I throw too much”. Its a no win situation…if I pick my new characters I get stomped bad by good/great players and they don’t want to keep playing cause they think I’m scrubbing it up (happend the othe day with a SRK member who fought my attroscious Blanka who I JUST started playing semi-seriously with…he has a character advatnage and BOOTS me cause I sucked in a player match with a new character )

I wish I could have a text that describes how I do things when I load

  • :bluu:

Lately in player matches I have a kind of algorithm for character select:

**If my skill is >> the other guy: I go randoms.

If my skill is == the other guy: I run a loop of my top 4-6 characters, then go randoms.

If my skill is << the other guy: I stick to my main, clearly I have something important to learn from my opponent.**

But if I am trying to learn a new character (we’ll use Abel as an example), then it changes to:

**If my skill is >> the other guy: Abel, then I go randoms.

If my skill is == the other guy: Abel, then I run a loop of my top 4-6 characters, then go randoms.

If my skill is << the other guy: Abel, then I stick to my main, clearly I have something important to learn from my opponent.**

100% of the time.

This is what I do.

Real talk, your Abel was the reason I decided to try and learn him.

:china:

Well sometimes I screw with the other characters. Not often though. I’m trying to get to the point where I can only see the game through the eyes of Abel, as opposed to a character with awesome anti-air or good normals. This helps with reaction-time as it pertains to character-specific situations.

But yeah, sometimes Ryu and sometimes M.Bison or Fei Long.

Well if the connection and the person is good I break out my main to learn the matchup. The good thing about player mode is that if you get a good connection with a pro you can play him several times and practice different things without fear of point loss.

That really shouldn’t be a fear anyways, they’re absolutely meaningless.

I always go for my non-main, other character that interesests me. I mean it’s a player match, it’s like a playground.

With friends i’ll usually dick around, but if it’s some random i’ll use Ken.

I play random unless it turns out they have a streak going, then I’ll switch to my main, ruin it, and go back to random
