It makes sense, considering we have to react faster to things we can’t see than things we can when it comes to survival. Our ears give us some level of positioning that isn’t in our view, so in order to survive, reacting to a sound behind while still seeing something in the front would be beneficial. Eyes see safety = ok, but eyes see safety but ears hear something creeping = run like fucking hell.
This is also why display lag isn’t so bad if you have a small degree of lag. 1 or 2 frames isn’t a big deal since you also have auditory senses to go by. Hear an attack, while seeing, is a good thing to practice. I know for sure that when I play SF with the sound off, I don’t play as well because I don’t get all the sound effects.
Any word on the new Hori sticks? Specifically the VLX. I know it’s not out yet, but I don’t know if any outlets got their hands on it. Wanna know if it’s decent before I drop $300 on one.
If I were Hori, I would have taken the same PCB that I put in the 6 models of PS4 sticks, and put it in the newest variation of the HRAP PVLX, just to save some coin on R&D and Manufacturing. I think it’s safe to say that there is no change.
This thread has ruined everything for me. I have a pre-order in on a TE-2+ that looks like it isn’t going to ship anytime soon. I went ahead and ordered a HRAP 4 Kai on Newegg, because it’s SOMETHING that can get me up and running on SFV, and now I see that this thread treats them as they’re made of compressed dogshit.
If you read though the discussions, the forum is pretty split on the validity of these claims.
There are those who would prtetty much die trying to defend this thread and there others like my self that taking a huge steamy shit on this thread, there also a 3rd group that sits in the middle that may or may not think the data is correct but also think people like me are too hard on the thread.
Personally if it was up to me this thread would be locked and the topic made off limits as it not serving the interest of ether Tech Talk, the Fighting Game community or the larger gaming community.
They’re not made of compressed dogshit. If you want compressed dogshit lag-wise, the PS3 Fightstick Pro is what you’re after. The way I put it usually is that if I want a stick I’d have no qualms buying the HRAP 4 Kai: It’s nicely built, has quality parts, a generally great price tag and the lag isn’t too much extra. I wouldn’t want to go much slower than the 4 Kai, but about a frame isn’t a problem. I’ve been playing PS3 games with a Qanba Q4 for ages (about a frame of extra lag compared to the PS360+, much like HRAP 4 Kai) and it’s not an issue. Some other stick might feel a small bit more enjoyable, but it just isn’t that much.
Care about lag if:
The stick is really laggy. One frame isn’t too much.
If you can afford to - ie. you have multiple sticks that you’re considering that otherwise meet your needs and can afford to buy any one: Of course go for the fastest one.
For example, I play primarily PC fighters, some on PS3, and have a Qanba Q4. The Q4 meets all my needs and then some, so I’m not in a hurry. I want to buy a new stick sometime, but have no pressing need for any so I can wait the results and go for fast, since it’s pretty much the only area the Q4 is in need of improvement.
If I wanted to start playing fighting games and needed my first stick, I’d snap order a HRAP 4 from a local electronics store or a Qanba Q4 from Arcade World UK, depending on my platform support needs.
Dude, stop, just stop with this pandering.
The whole “Doses your stick lag” BS is just Toxic to the whole community. It’s creating a false notion of what to expect and what to look for.
People really try to rely their purchase of hundreds of dollars in gaming equipment, countless hours of game play and for some people their careers in what is just one set of test results that should of been taken with a grain of salt to begin with. It needs to end.
This thread isn’t about science any more, its people taking some incomplete data and basing there purchases off one persons test results that could be and is completely wrong.
It’s like the anti-vaccine crowd in microcosm, the only difference is we aren’t putting peoples lives at risk with bad, incorrect infomation. It’s also why there been less testing in the topic.
The results are put into question now by so many people on so many grounds that taking the data on page one ‘as is’ would be a huge mistake.
Only if that information is accurate. Misinformation is alot worst than no information at all.
I told him to prioritize the actual piece of hardware over milliseconds, now didn’t I? Is the advice now somehow wrong because I also said that lag can be a concern sometimes, even if it shouldn’t be a primary one in a vast majority?
What the fuck do you even want? That everyone stuff their ears and go lalalala lag doesn’t exits don’t buy Paewang evah?
So you admit that there something wrong. Its just isn’t the millisecond results, its also the arbitrarily chosen 0ms boards, the letter grades that goes down to M. The lack of explanation. I am trying not to make it about Teyah as just throwing him under the bus (as you just did right now) isn’t addressing the underline cause. Seriously I got people asking me if a LED lit USB cable causes lag or not. The problem is now that there been to attempt to make any explanation. The other issue is people don’t want a explanation, they want something to blame, a escape goat for their short comings (which it’s its own issue within the FGC).
Yeah, its " made of compressed dogshit". This might sound anecdotal to some, but when the issue is hitting your wallet its not anecdotal anymore its fact.
I know plenty of good moddes and stick builders with decent skills having to take back sticks for repairs or service (sometimes at their own expense) because the Paewang PCB installed inside died.
I don’t have solid figures what the rate of failure is, but it happen enough where many of those modders feel that the Paewang is no longer a financially viable choice for mods and builds.
There invoices for their business becomes proof that something is wrong with those PCBs. Yes it is not the best science but you see the same documented issues from multiple sources.
It be the same thing to be as a experienced mechanics telling me to avoid a certain model of automobile because of a manufacturers defect. A Defect those mechanics all had issues with with repeat repairs and service.
At that point there alot of credibility there.
