Hey everyone. I am posting this general question, how much do you practice (in hours per week) as a poll. If it requires so, please leave a post as well as voting in the poll, describing your specific practice habits, routines, time, etc.
Also, just to be clear, by practice I mean anytime spent on a fighting game, by a competitive player, that is not at a competition.
Probably about 16-20 hours a week on a good week (i.e. little to no homework, lectures are easy, etc). When the workload gets heavy, about 7-10 hours a week and then it’s usually only execution stuff.
I used to practice fighters for close to 24 hours straight back when I was in high school and in my earlier days of college.
Now days, I rarely play since I am trying to get a job to keep myself up to date with these new fighters and get my XBOX Live account back online. And I don’t know anyone that plays anything I do at the same level, so practicing is pretty tough. T_T And I sure have a long list of fighters I want to try out, practice, and get good at.
The only practice I get is when I play online, which is counter-productive since it gives me bad habits.
It’s very difficult for me to sit in training mode and practice links, combos, timing and whatever else. I’ll try for about 3-6 minutes and hop online. Wish I wasn’t like that, as I have a lot of time to sit in training mode.
Yea… I try to either use the training rooms of games, or play the computer AI on it’s hardest difficulty… Unless it’s a GGPO game like 3rd Strike or Skullgirls, in which I will play online because timing isn’t that much different then offline, if at all.
Online for me is saved pretty much for general training, such as space control, nailing my pokes, execution, etc.
Same here. I’ll think about stuff at work that I’ll test out and practice in training mode. Then I come home and either:
watch youtube / streams all evening
startup my console, jump online, get an invite and play for the rest of the evening.
I hate myself for that
As a sidenote:
Daigo talking about several topics, here’s what’s relevant for this thread:
He still insists that he goes to game center 363 days a year. He takes 2 days off at the New Year.
He discovered that playing 6 hours a day is enough for him. You need time to think, not just playing aimlessly. He used to play more than 10 hours a day in the first year of being a pro.
Doubt he has more than 6 hours! He needs to go to sleep to work next day too The man got a job.
Your timing has to be perfect cause when I play online I only got 1 or 2 chance to hit combos. The rest of the damage is done by zoning and footsie.
Its very tiresome to know that you practice combos for 8 hours and then only get 1-2 chance to hits the combos.
Here is my chance idea to the combo system
Combos need to be easier to execute cause street fighter 4 is not about combos! Its about zoning, footsie and poking. Good players only give you 1 chance to do combos on them. They rarely do mistakes.
