Forget about the net profit received this year. Businesses are valued on their total stream of all potential future earnings, and also on intangible assets such as goodwill (the value of the brand, etc.) It is not unrealistic that SRK and Evo could be valued quite highly by a company interested in reaching the demographic that SRK and Evo represents.
Hmmm I dont know, I’m kinda agreeing with Geo on this one. I’ll let him make his own explanation if he desires, but If this event continues to get more popular every year (which it will, fighting games will ALWAYS be recurring releases in the future), then yes, EVO will become worth a chunk of change. I still remember when people HARDLY gave a rats ass about skateboarders and anything related to that sport. Then the moment something incredibly groundbreaking happened and popularity/attention/news/media shifted to a piece of wood with 4 wheels, Venue owners were willing to pay MILLIONS of dollars to host X Games tournaments in their home city. Everything from commercials to reality shows to dollar stores selling mainstream skateboarding equipment was a byproduct of the fame and notariety that it had earned through the popularity.
Sorry for spilling off into a tangent, I was caught in the year 2000. My point is that EVO IS THE VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT OF THE WORLD and If not sooner, then later, but it will get to the point where the brand itself will be worth a shit load of money. You might even see Walmart start selling Fight Sticks for cheap, and EVO will be the cause of the huge sensation.
esports is on the rise and will not stop anytime soon.

Are you crazy - come on man, do you think someone will run any event for that matter and break even. Grow up! something as large as EVO is going to be worth a couple of $$mill$$ and I think they deserve it. No one will put the time and effort into something that wont get him a return - key word “investors”.

I’m def not saying that the Cannon’s, Mr. Wizard, and the rest of the crew don’t deserve it. I’m just saying it’s def a few years and a lot more players and corporate interest before EVO could be valued that high. I think everyone is forgetting the 10 years before SF4 came out when EVO was a lot smaller. Also I’m sure a lot of the major tournies started out barely breaking even or losing money and the organizers don’t care about that. They do it to grow the community not make money.
Fair call! I rate evo to be pretty high in terms of a business and your right in some aspect but the underlying truth is, more capcom games now… For 10 yrs, SF series has not moved like this, due to the success of SF4, SSF4, capcom moving forward will create more expansion and hopefully this will attract more gamers who will explore the fighting genre, you cant mash in SF like you can in Tekken.

I get the sense that this is just a feeling that you have and that you can’t substantiate it. Do you have any knowledge at all about how companies are valued?
I understand that companies look at past history/performances and EVO has only started to grow over the past few years thanks to SF4. Not to be a pessimist but if I were investing into/buying something such as EVO I would def wait to see if this Fighting Game rebirth has legs, especially in this economy.

But it was in the goal of attempting to support my argument that Evo and SRK could potentially be worth more than some people in this thread were claiming. Since then I haven’t see anything from them (or from you) refuting that argument. If you want to try and debate the topic at hand, go right ahead. If you just want to attempt to mock other people’s accomplishments, that’s weak.

i think you guys are missing geo’s point. He is merely saying down the road in the future he can see how the brand evo could potentially be worth millions. And that isn’t so farfetched. Nor would he be wrong in saying that statement at all. Imagine if they decided to randomly add fps to there tourney weekend.
