I started playing fighting games for about a year now. I still suck at them though. Its really hard for me to stay above 1000pp on SF4. I guess I’m okay at marvel but that game is mostly bs. I also use a pretty cheap team lol. Probably my biggest weakness is defense. Its hard for me to block when I’m being rushed down. I have trouble blocking cross ups and teching throws. I also have a problem that I rarely use meter. I have learned to play this game though. Its a night and day difference if you compared my current skill level with last year. My execution isn’t bad. I can do some hard combos. I remember practicing my FADC ultra with ryu and how hard it was for me. Now its so easy to do. I went to my first tournament in march which was Final Round. I wanted to play casuals with other players but I was intimidated by the player. There skill level were so much higher than mine. So what I’m basically asking is how long did it take you to be at a respectable skill level.
i don’t know. i’m still working on it.
its been 20+ years, and counting.
i’ll get back to you on this one.
maybe 15 years from now.
A lot.
But why work hard? Here, have this gem…
seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, your entire life.
make your choice.
I think it was like instant.
hey Gramps, didn’t the nurses tell you not to wonder out of your bed?
In bold is your biggest weakness.
You’ll never improve if you don’t put yourself out there, and you’ll never win if you think of yourself as not being worthy of playing with the big dogs. I’m not saying become overconfident - just become confident.
The more you put yourself out there, the easier it gets.
I’ll never know. I always seem to walk away from the victory ceremony before they could offer me my trophy.
Eh, only a few years, give or take. Never went to a tournament but who cares? Being good in secret works.
Wish I knew. Started playing when SF2 came out and I’ve been playing ever since. I guess one good thing you could do is branch out and play all different kinds of fighters. The “systems” for lack of a better term tend to bleed over into each other sometimes. Something you do in one game could improve your play in another. As for where to start right now, I’d say hyperfighting is a good place to start. KOF (98 recommended) will help you get used to linking which should not be confused with chaining. After that it’s just practice.
Depends on what aspects of fighting games we’re talking about. I’ve been playing about 20 years so I’m pretty good at footsies, zoning, etc, all the basic stuff.I feel like I just started getting better because I’ve been able to play more players (online.) I’m busy and on the road a lot, so going to in-town meetups isn’t really an option for me. Unfortunately, they don’t yet have online/portable versions of the games I love the best (3s/GG) so I’ve been settling for SF4.
That said, I’ve never been above 2k BP in SF4. I can beat a lot of 2-5k players using said basics, but getting above 2k bp seems nigh impossible (though it’s not something I care about too much.
Depends what you call good, I thought I was good at mvc2 til I got online and it took me 2 months before I could win a match.
Am I even good now? I play KoF XIII pretty shittily (and people keep reminding me).
I mean I study and train my craft…but that doesn’t mean I’m “good”.
I’ll let you know when I’m good :wonder:
To know fundamentals and shit… No idea. Depends on how much you want to improve.
20 years and I still suck.
Some people will never get good. Not everyone is created equal. You might be like me, 25 years later and still unable to beat a game on Easiest. Some people are just shit.
Im the fucking best
I’m fine with everything except (real) hit confirming and blocking, so basically I fucking suck at real fighting games. Good thing I don’t play them lol!
I’ve only been playing for a few years.
Been playing for 25 years, since Street Fighter 1, and I’m still not ‘good’ - just ‘ok’. Actually, I’ve been playing longer than that if Karate Champ counts.
