How does the Wii see the TvC stick?

Does the Wii think it’s a ‘classic controller’, a Wiimote and nunchuck combo or what?

BIG ASS CLASSIC CONTROLLER. Now was this thread needed really.

My wii sees my stick as a standard wiimote for some reason. I just map A to “special 1”, B to “special 2”, and C to “assist” and I’m all set.
