How does the leaderboard work?

I’ve noticed I can move up or down a couple of hundred places at a time. There’s been a couple of nights that I dominated, only losing like two out of 50 matches. But instead of moving up or at least staying around the same, I dropped 200 spots. And just now, I went from #700 and change to #98 in one match. (on average, I fluctuate between #200-500). I understand that beating a player of higher skill than me will bring me up but 700 to 98 in one match, really? And yet I’ve noticed the top few players are always up there even though it seems like I’m winning 90% of my matches but I’m going up and down hundreds of spots every night seemingly at random.

EDIT: and I’m on Xbox so I don’t have any of that tier system. It has something to do with the Trueskill system but some clarification on how it works or if it’s even working properly would be nice.

Im curious too

I THINK (keyword: Think) the rank movement is because the leaderboard doesn’t constantly update, but your score does. I think it figures out where you’d be on the leaderboard if that leaderboard was accurate.

I try not to take the leaderboard too seriously for a couple reasons. First off is the reason you stated; I’m sick of losing and moving up. I’m done trying to stay in the top 400 or so every night and getting frustrated after winning. The other reason is that I get much better quality games playing unranked matches. I find better quality players and I can actually evaluate myself compared to another player if I play first to five or ten. Much more to learn there if you ask me…

I always seem to move down when i win, but then when i play the game again my rank seems to correct itself (as in, i’ve actually moved up from where i was after winning like 15-1). I don’t really get it. Would be nice to see the actual TrueSkill rating if that is what it is going by, to see whats actually happening.

Are the people with these issues on PSN or XBL? Because the XBL leaderboards seem decently OK to me. I’ve never jumped, I’ve been 100~350 since release.
