In one of my club meetings we were talking about fundraisers and the club president said we are going to do an open tournament for USFIV or MK in the student center. He left me in charge of the set ups and other stuff. I kinda know how to run a tournament but I need to brush up on that. But I would like to know how to start up a tournament in a college. This is gonna be the first time the club is gonna do this and wants to keep doing this in the future. The date is not decided yet.
- Find Venue
- Find Consoles
- Find Games
- Advertise - posters around your college and social media
Venue is obviously the college. Question, is there casuals in your area? That where you want to go to find people who will not only enter but bring consoles and games. If it is for fund raising use this to your advantage. Got to your local top 40 radio station and find out how much it will cost for them to run the event. When I did a St. Pattys party with the radio station and made it “their” party the station gave me $20,000 worth of ads for only $2,100. When you have your price take that price and shop around to businesses and look for a sponsor for the event. Target businesses that sell to college age kids and their parents. Car Dealerships, mobile phone companies, payday advance stores, night clubs, ect.
For running the tournament either do paper brackets or if you are using a computer use TioPro instead of challonge for various reasons. Use the EVO ruleset for simplicity.
