How do you go about a character's cancelable combos, and playstyle? (picking up a character)

I’m not really new to fighters (i am new to this site) but I’m wondering what is the best way to discover things about any given character?
(i feel like the obvious answer is practice everything) right now although my ps4 is broken I’ve been using my Xbox to practice on injustice 1, skullgirls, and super street fighter 4 (i couldn’t afford arcade edition on amazon…yeh yeh lol) and I’m using these 2d fighters to somewhat better my knowledge. my goal is to enter a tournament for injustice 2 and I ask this question cause one thing I’m trying to get better at is picking up a character quickly. so is there any specific way to go about it (cause I’ve been doing constant practice but lol is that it?)

now about me, when i first started playing fighters i sucked abit (couldn’t even do a hodouken cause back then I didn’t understand the controls…pad players lol) now i have a drive to become a pro, and i can say im picking these games back up very quickly. its just the technicals im having trouble ith (reads, cancels, etc. i have footies down and teching throws is pretty easy now) my only problem is right now i have no one decent to play against other than cpu my brothers are nowhere near good. and are mostly button mashers except for maybe one move. my xbox 360 does not have a wireless adapter (probably could buy one though) and i can’t really use the ethernet cause its normally in use.

so basically im trying to get better at a game i have no one else to play versus. im teaching myself, and i kinda need guidance. my only opponent at the moment is a hard-very hard (our for skullgirls ridiculous-insane) cpu.= help Me If You Can lol

You can search for local gatherings and go to those. There is a regional matchmaking section here, but you might be able to just google that. You’ll be forced to play what they are playing though, which will probably require a PS4 or PC. You’re not really going to get better playing against the CPU or your bothers(unless they start to take it seriously too), so it’s either that or online play. I wouldn’t recommend using wifi for online play either.

There is really no secret to picking up a new character quickly, but when you play against real, good player a lot, you get a pretty good idea for how characters are played. You can also study frame data to give you an idea of what is safe and unsafe. Obviously you can learn that through trial and error as well, but someone has already done that part and laid it all out for you.

The take away here should be that you really need to play against better players. And I would recommend looking into alternatives to wifi, such as an ethernet hub and a long cord, or a powerline adapter(never used it, but I hear it’s better than wifi).
